Barbara Jean Abner Roysden, born on December 3, 1931, in Coal Creek, Tennessee to Buel and Bertha Abner, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025. From a young age, Barbara faced challenges with unwavering strength, surviving an epidemic of scarlet fever that left her blind for several years. She graduated from Oakridge High School and furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, earning a degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Barbara's faith journey led her from being raised Baptist to encountering the Episcopal Church at St. John’s in Burkburnett. She served her churches in various roles since she was 18. Her dedication was evident through her involvement in baby groups, teaching children’s classes, young adults, and adults, as well as serving as secretary. A member of Rebekah’s Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Women’s Missionary Union, Barbara loved serving others and caring for hospital patients.
Barbara married Robert V. Roysden of Bryceville, Tennessee, and together they built a loving military family filled with cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hamar and husband Rodney; son, Robert Roysden and wife Sandi; and daughter, Kathy and husband Rodney. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Buel and Bertha Abner; and her sister, Lassie Lou Abner. Her legacy continues through her children and her enduring spirit will always be remembered. Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Her gentle soul and compassionate heart left an indelible mark on the world, and those who were fortunate enough to know her will forever carry her in their hearts
