Barbara Nell Schmeing

Barbara Nell Schmeing, age 87 of Jabez, KY passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at her residence.  Barbara was born on April 20, 1937 in Daviess County, KY to William Leon Harley and Jessie Eloise Thompson Harley. She was of Baptist faith.  Ms. Schmeing always worked in secretarial or administrative assistant positions. She worked for the American Cancer Society for many years.  Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.  She enjoyed going fishing and she loved to dance.

Survivors include one son, Dan Young (Melissa) of Jabez, KY; four grandchildren, Danny Young (Reasha) of Somerset, Dara Young (Christy) of Washington State, Samantha Chase of Jabez, and Travis Chase (Wendi) of McCreary County; eight great grandchildren, Jessie Merritt, Gracelynn Merritt, Kinslee Merritt, Ayden Chase, Lillith Chase, Cagley Young, Mason Morrison (Emillee), and Christopher Morrison; one great grandchild, Oliver Morrison; one brother, Jim Harley (Donna) of Owensboro; one brother-in-law, Bob Jenkins of Jabez, KY;  and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William Leon and Jessie Eloise Harley; her brother, Lacy Harley; sisters, Wanda Jenkins, Deloise Roberts, Jeanie Roper, Judy Arrants;  and two siblings in infancy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 6:oo pm – 8:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503.  Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Clark officiating.  Burial will follow at the Military Springs Cemetery, Jabez, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are welcomed in memory of Barbara Schmeing.  Contributions can be mailed c/o Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at P.O. Box 1441, Somerset, KY  42502.
