Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry to hear about Ms Barbara's passing.
She was a blessing in our life group at Ms Nancy's house.
She will be dearly missed.

My deepest sympathy to you as you grieve the loss of Barbara. I remember her from Bethel A/G. She was a ray of light and I was a recipient of her love! I rejoice that she is now living her best life in the presence of our God!!!

We have fond memories of Barbara, she was in the prayer group at Nancy Seaton 's ,My mother in law.Prayers for the family.

Barbara never failed to amaze me. She welcomed my (special need) into the children ministry, and loved her to the day she left. I’m very thankful I got to love Barbara and call her my friend. We served together in the clothing closet. She always fillled the room with her beautiful smile and laughter. She loved her family, and all her Barbie dolls. She loved her Christmas trees. Ohhh she had so much love for all! It’s was my blessing knowing her. My condolences to the family.

Ms. Barbara had a great sense of humor , and a beautiful soul. Thanks for being you, I will miss you.

She always had a kind word for you and big hugs. You know you've been hugged by Mrs. Barbara! Thank you Mrs. Barbara, I will miss you.

All the ladies at You’re Someone Special so enjoyed your mom at the salon. We always had fun and a blessed time and I (Theresa) feel so fortunate that our paths passed all those years ago. I will miss you Barbara!

What a blessing Barbara was to me while I was an Bethel. We had some fun times at fellowships and laughed much. I will miss seeing her here but know I will see her again there. Much love to her family.

Our dearest Barbara. You have gone to be with Jesus and we will miss you dearly. You will always be a special, classy lady and friend, and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Working together in the clothing closet and our special dinners together will always be special and fond memories. We love you always.

Obituary

Barbara's Obituary

Our loving mother, Barbara C Smith, 82, went to be with her maker on August 11,2025.  Born on August 6,1943, in Newport News, Virginia, Barbara made Hampton Roads her home for her entire lifetime. After a marriage that lasted 16 years, she raised her 4 children by herself while working full time. Barbara created an atmosphere of warmth, resilience and devotion to those she loved.

She dedicated her life to making other people’s lives better.  As manager of a small company in Hampton, she made all her customers feel welcome and at home as she collected rents for houses and storage units, many times “working with” a tenant that could not pay on time. She was part of a company that she considered to be her second family.

Barbara was a member of Bethel Temple Church in Hampton. Over many years she served her church faithfully as an usher, ran the nursery, and worked with the clothing closet. She was a beacon of light ministering with positivity and love.

She enjoyed dogs, cats, and a goose named Jake; sometimes adopting them.

Preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Smith Hitchler; her father, Fredrick Clark: and her mother, Francis Clark; she is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Spitzer and Julie Smith; her son, George “Billy” Smith (Paula); her grandchildren, Crystal Smith, Michael Spitzer (April), Alexandria Spitzer, Raven Spitzer, Ashley Young, Ashton White, Lauren Covington (Isaiah), Zachary Phillips, Jordan Phillips (Dejah), Josiah Phillips (Svetlana), Jamison Smith, and Aaron Smith.  Being a proud grandmother, she also had a host of great grandkids, and great, great, grandkids as well being an inspiration to us all.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Bethel Temple Church in Hampton, Va., beginning at 11:00 A.M. A celebration of life will follow afterwards.

In accordance with her wishes, Barbara will be cremated. The family kindly requests that floral arrangements be sent to Bethel Temple.
