BARBARA's Obituary

Barbara left this world surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and joy. Born on July 15, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was a native of Convent, Louisiana. Barbara departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 77.

Barbara lived a life filled with faith, love, and devotion to her family. She was a talented cook, and her kitchen served as the heart of countless family gatherings. Barbara’s greatest joy was spending time with family, especially outdoors. She loved to fish, finding serenity in the stillness of the water and excitement in each catch, creating lifelong memories with family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Clarence (Teddy) Stewart; her loving children, Clarence Stewart Jr. of Gonzales, Louisiana, and Tyrus (Letitia) Stewart of Metairie, Louisiana; and her precious grandchildren, Jasmin French of New Orleans, Sydney Stewart, and Victoria Stewart of Metairie, Louisiana. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Rev. Samuel Jones, Clarence Prestley, Alex White of St. James, Louisiana, and Andre (Shalonda) Jones of Thibodaux, Louisiana, as well as her sisters: Betsy (Edwin III) Octave of St. James, Louisiana, Betta Jacque of Gonzales, Louisiana, Lenora (Calvin) Watis of Gonzales, Louisiana, Clara (Rev. Herbert) Harris, Alexis Graves of St. James, Louisiana, Virginia Richardson, Dorris LeBlanc, and Brenda Allen of Convent, Louisiana.

 

Barbara is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Persell Stewart, Alfred Stewart of Convent, Louisiana, and Rodney Taylor of LaPlace, Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Holmes of Gonzales, Louisiana, and Darlene Stewart of Houston, Texas; along with countless nieces, nephews, and dear friends who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annious Allen, Betsy, and Alex Jones; her grandmother, Melvina White; her aunts, Roszetta White and Dorestine Cummings; her brother, Mervin White; her sisters, Emily Stewart, Dora Lee Cooper, and Irma Taylor; her father-in-law, James Stewart; her mother-in-law, Irene Clark Stewart; her sisters-in-law, Margaret White, Hattie Mae Jones, Audrey Skidmore, and Rosemary Felton; and her brothers-in-law, Jerry Stewart, Elliott Stewart, Wilfred Cooper, Atwood Graves, and Albert Stewart Sr.

 

Barbara Stewart will forever be remembered for her warm heart, incredible meals, love of the water, and her fearless nature. Her warm heart and the joy she brought to everyone she met remain unforgettable. Her legacy lives on in the love she shared and the countless lives she touched.
