Barbi's Obituary

Barbi Lynne Marshall succumbed to the ravages of dementia on Sunday August 24, 2025, at 12:50 am at Poet’s Walk, a memory care facility in Leesburg, Virginia. Her husband, Thomas Corbett Marshall was by her side when the Hospice nurse certified her passing.  Barbi was born in Dallas, Texas to parents, Nathan Levine and Dorothy Weinkrantz Levine on February 19, 1953.  She is survived by her sister, Marilyn R. Levine, of Lorton, VA and children Amy Marshall Hyatt of Happy Valley, Oregon, Thomas “Cory” Marshall of Leesburg and step-daughter, Katie, Ilene Marshall of Roanoke, VA

Barbi left Texas for Virginia in 1976 to teach school in the “Land of Milk and Honey”, affectionally known in the Commonwealth of Virginia, at that time, as Fairfax County Public Schools.  Upon arrival, she lived with a cousin, Ilene in her home in Falls Church, on prophetically, named MARSHALL Street.  Tom and Barbi met at James Madison HS in Vienna, VA where she was a special education teacher and he was a school counselor.  In 1988, when Tom became Director of Student Services he appointed Barbi as Chair of the Special Education Department. He did so for her exemplary work with students and parents and the fact that she had a master’s degree from Harvard University.

Barbi and Tom started dating after his separation from his first wife while they both resided in Reston, VA.  One summer day on a ‘marathon” bike ride they ended up, exhausted, in Leesburg, Virginia.  They were so proud of their athletic accomplishment, they made Leesburg their home.

Funeral Services are planned for Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road. NE in Leesburg, Visitation at 12:00 Noon and full service at 1:00 pm, followed by a progression to a private burial at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
