Benny McHugh, age 88, of Electra, Texas passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, in Electra Healthcare Center.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Ryan Vanderland, Pastor of First Baptist Church, and Joe Ainsworth of Electra, officiating. Interment will follow in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2024, at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Benny was born February 24, 1936 in Electra to the late John Evans McHugh and Stacy Bowery McHugh.
Benny graduated in 1954 from Electra High School. He then attended Midwestern State University for two years.
He and Patsy Wood were married July 2, 1959 in Electra, Texas. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2017.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army at Fort Polk.
Benny started his business career at the age of fourteen as a grocery sack boy at Clyde’s Grocery and Market. At seventeen, he began his career at Goldsmith Drug where he worked as an apprentice pharmacy technician. In 1995, he became a registered certified pharmacy technician and worked fifty plus years until his retirement. Benny and Patsy also owned McHugh BBQ for twelve years. After selling the BBQ place, they became rental property owners for several years before selling that business.
In 1984, Benny was ordained as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Electra where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Director, General Officers, Chairman of the Deacons and a Trustee.
Benny also was a member of the Electra Jaycees, Electra Chamber of Commerce, and Electra Little League Baseball. He helped organize and coached the Electra Midget Football League, served two years as Cub Master for Cub Scouts and served two years helping the Boy Scouts. Benny served six years on the Electra School Board, one year as President.
Survivors include two sons, Greg McHugh of Wichita Falls and Mark McHugh of Electra; two grandchildren, Zakk and Madelaine; one great-grandchild, Malakhai; sister, Linda Adkins of Perry, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Bill Stultz of Arlington; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of friends including, Joe Ainsworth and Sue Howell.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, 406 West Garrison, Electra, Texas 76360 or the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, 600 Southwest 11th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79101.
