Berniece Alvina Kirchhevel

Berniece A. (Pietz) Kirchhevel, 95, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away at Good Samaritan Village on April 4th, 2025.

Berniece was born on December 26th, 1929, in Hutchinson County, SD. She was the daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Schneider) Pietz. She attended Pearly Mound Country School through the eighth grade.

On February 23rd, 1951, Berniece united in marriage to Bernard Kirchhevel at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, SD, and they shared 43 years of marriage. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Karen (Wayne) Wermers and Barb (Allen) Villmow. The couple resided near Delmont, SD, where they farmed for 43 years together. They attended Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. After Bernard passed in 1995, Berniece moved to Sioux Falls, SD.

Berniece enjoyed gardening, playing piano, and drinking coffee. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Berniece is survived by her daughter Barb Villmow and her husband Allen of Delmont, SD; Granddaughter Stephanie Preheim, her husband Dustin, and children Hannah, Austin, and Leah of Sioux Falls, SD;  Granddaughter Melanie Hericks, her husband Ryan, and their children Mason and Ethan of Sioux Falls, SD; Son-in-law Wayne Wermers of Sioux Falls, SD; Grandson Bryan Wermers, his wife Lisa, and their daughters Emerson and Alexa of Sioux Falls, SD; and Grandson Bryce Wermers of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Lydia (Schneider) Pietz, husband Bernard Kirchhevel, daughter Karen Wermers, sister Ester (Pietz) Konstanz, brother Benjamin Pietz, brother Alvin Pietz, sister Leontina Ulmer, and sister Hilda Roth.

A Visitation will be held at 9 AM, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service starting at 10 AM.  Interment will be held in Delmont, SD, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at 2 PM.
