At an early age, he united with the New Hope Baptist Church, in Sulphur, which was founded by his grandfather, the Reverend William Louis Bennett.  Bert loved horses and learned to train them.  He competed in rodeos as a bull rider.  He loved people and always sought to better lives of those around him and gave his best in whatever task before him.

His love for fashion led him to develop the pocket handkerchief holder.  He loved old gospel and the blues.  He could sing any Bobby Blue Bland song and sound like him.  He loved hearing his cousin, hall of famer Wayne Bennett, who played lead guitar.

Bert had lived in Las Vegas for over 40 years and enjoyed his time there with friends that included Redd Foxx; Joe Jackson; George Foreman; Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  He returned to Oklahoma City in 2021.
