Mrs. Davis became my Nana when I was 8 years old. As the God daughter of Walter and Edna Davis, she accepted me with open arms and treated me better than my own paternal grandmother. My maternal grandmother died shortly before I was born. Nana fulfilled that role without even knowing. She meant the world to me. She will truly be missed.

My wife and I had the great pleasure of working with Ms Bertha, as she was known on the job. Ms Bertha was a warm, compassionate and kind person with the biggest smile. We worked with Ms Bertha for a number of years and can truly say that we have never seen Ms Bertha say or do anything negative to her coworkers or the many families that she packed their household goods. Ms Bertha was a women of Grace and Faith. She certainly was a blessing and a gift to our lives.
To the Davis family, ...

Bertha Lee Davis (Royal)
October 15, 1933 – August 13, 2025
Bertha Lee Davis, 91, of Newport News, Virginia, entered eternal rest on August 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 15, 1933, in Warwick County, she was the daughter of the late Shedrick and Bertha Royal.
Bertha accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church Morrison, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board for several decades. She was educated at Carver High School and, at 16, married the love of her life, the late Archie Bob Davis. Together, they built a home filled with love, faith, and hospitality, welcoming relatives, friends, and neighbors as family.
Bertha was a servant leader with the heart of Jesus, a God-fearing and praying woman whose faith was the foundation of her life. For more than 44 years, she worked as a professional packer, taking special care in her work and treating each household’s treasures as her own.
Her home was the house where everyone wanted to eat dinner, even when she was not sure there was enough; GOD always made a way somehow and no one ever left her table hungry. She was our beautiful matriarch, carrying generations with her heavy strength, lighting rooms with her infectious laugh and wrapping everyone in her loving warmth. If you knew her, she made sure you felt like family. She was a Proverbs 31 woman: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future” (Proverbs 31:25), more precious than rubies.
Bertha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Archie B. Davis, Sr., son, Anthony Q. Davis; grandchildren, Jacquia Blackley and Jonathan Mason Davis. She leaves to cherish her memories her dear sister, Minister Marion Kirby; daughter-in-law Sandra Davis (wife of Anthony), her children: Nancy Jones (Jimmie), Jacqueline Pope (Wilbert), Archie Davis Jr., James Davis (Salome), Robert Davis (Stephanie), Walter Davis (Edna), Debra Davis, and Audrey Gibson (Scott); 27 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday August 22, 2025 @ 10am up until start of service @ 11am at First Baptist Church Morrison 12720 Patrick Henry Drive, Newport News, VA 23602. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens 155 Butler Farm Road Hampton, VA 23666.
