Not sure what to say?

Betty was my "down the street" neighbor my entire childhood. I would often knock on her door with some "very important" stories of my youth, and she always made me feel so important. She always treated me and the other children with such love and compassion. Betty will always be one of my favorite childhood memories. I was blessed to have known her and will always carry her within me.

Hello to all the family and friends of Betty. She'd been on my mind today, I lost touch after I left Montrose in 1999, but her friendship when we worked at the Courthouse together was pivotal. It was lovely to read of her full life since I knew her, and blessing so many, is a gift that lives long. She was so much fun. Sincerely
Doreen Frick....

Betty welcomed me with open arms when I started at the library in 1991, my first proper full-time job. She teased and laughed and made me feel at home. She made the Montrose library feel like a warm and friendly place to so many people and she will be very sorely missed. Condolences especially to her family, whom she loved so much, and to all who knew her. Her memory is a blessing!

Our family was blessed to have Betty as a neighbor and friend for many years. She was a wonderful woman, and will be missed.

She was a loving lady and a good friend and love bowling with her on bowling league and she will be missed by a lot of people that loved her and loved her she special guardian angel watching over her loved ones till we all meet again ❤

Betty's Obituary

Betty J. Marshall, 89, of Montrose, PA, passed away on September 26, 2025, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, PA, after an irreversible stroke. She was born in Sydney, NY, on June 19, 1936, to the late Karl Frederick and Ellen Fink. Her husband, James McBryde Marshall, predeceased her in 1973. She was also predeceased by her sister, Patrícia Gangloff, and her brother, James Fink.

Betty was a loving mother to three children, Dirk McBryde Marshall (deceased in 2021), Karl Kevin Marshall, and Todd Irwin Marshall; her grandson, Brant Marshall; as well as by many of her beloved nephews and nieces.

Betty was a loving and caring member of the Montrose community for most of her life, having worked at the Lathrop Street Elementary School, the Montrose Publishing Company, the Susquehanna County Assessment Office, and the Susquehanna County Library, where she was well known and loved. As she was an avid reader all her life, she dedicated many untiring hours to bringing the Library, storytelling, and books in general to the Montrose community. And even after her retirement, she donated many hours of her time as a volunteer in the library network and to the Salt Springs State Park. Her passions included scrapbooking and travelling in the US and the world, especially to Brazil to visit her youngest son and his family in Belo Horizonte and Nova Era, Brazil.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Elisha’s home Ministry, Klima’s Road in Fairdale, PA, on October 18th, at 11:00am, including a service, presided by Paster Rob Ford, followed by a catered dinner. All friends and family members are invited to join us in remembering and celebrating Betty’s amazing life.

Betty’s family would especially like to thanks all of the caring staff at Sacred Heart Hospice of Dunmore.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susquehanna County Library in Montrose, PA.
