Betty's Obituary

Betty Lou Olson, 72, of Lennox, South Dakota, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Betty Lou Van Loh was born on July 29, 1953, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of George and Verna (Bultena) Van Loh of Lennox. She received her education in Lennox and graduated from Lennox High School with the Class of 1971.

She met Mark Naber, and they were married in June of 1974 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Betty worked in Canton and later at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. The couple moved to San Diego, California, where on August 5, 1978, they welcomed twin boys, Michael and Richard. The boys arrived early and spent some time in the hospital in San Diego. While living there, Betty worked for Pacific Bell.

In 1990, the family returned to Sioux Falls. Betty and Mark separated in 1996. She worked at Target until she was reinstated at U.S. West.

In 1998, through friends, Betty met the love of her life, Ole Olson. They were married on May 16, 2001. Ole lived in Sioux Falls and was employed at John Morrell (Smithfield). Betty and Ole enjoyed listening and dancing to the same kinds of music. She enjoyed riding motorcycle and loved spending time with her grandchildren: Michael Jr. and Hailey, children of Michael and Kat Naber; and CC, daughter of Richard and Malyssa. She also cherished Ole’s grandchildren—Nina, Ole IV, Hanna, Sophia, and Solomon, children of Ole III and Nicole.

Betty and Ole shared a love for football, especially her beloved Chargers. They also enjoyed NASCAR and attended several races together. Betty retired from Qwest in 2005, and Ole retired from Smithfield in 2019.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, George Van Loh, in 1994, and her mother, Verna Van Loh, in August 2019.

In 2024, Betty and Ole moved to Lennox. In July of 2025, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She fought bravely through chemotherapy and radiation, but the treatments were not effective. She passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025.

She was my angel, and I will miss her forever. Her three beloved cats will miss her as well.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at the South Dakota State Veteran's Cemetery.
