Betty Joyce Tarter of Nancy, KY entered eternal life on Monday, August 11, 2025 where she is now reunited with her beloved husband and all the people in her life on Gods earth that have gone to be with the Lord in Heaven before her.
Betty was born on December 22, 1932 in Somerset, KY. She was the daughter of Fred and Odetta Padgett. She was married on March 25, 1950 to Wayne Tarter, all have preceded her in death.
She is survived by their 3 children: Debbie Nostro (Michael) of Grand Island, FL. Rick Tarter of Nancy, KY. and Tim Tarter (Teresa) of Nancy, KY. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Kimberly Gross (Chris) of Somerset, KY., Chris Nostro (Vanessa) of Clermont, FL., Tamara Shaw (Chris) of Lexington, KY., Jessica Melton (Corey) of Durham, NC. and Austin Tarter of Nancy, KY. She was blessed with 9 great grandchildren, nieces & nephews and 2 precious sisters-in-law Pat and Sandy Tarter.
Family was important in her life; she raised her children and began working outside the home in 1967. She was employed at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s office, Pulaski County PVA Office and finished her state tenure at the Pulaski Co. Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. After retiring from state employment, she worked for Southeast Appraisal for J.W. Grabel, who she thought of as a brother. She was active in her community, there she was a cub scout leader, member of the Nancy Homemakers club, Sunday school teacher and was always involved in many church activities. She loved farm life and together with her husband Wayne they built a wonderful life on the farm. Betty loved the Lord and held strong to her Christian faith. Christian values were a big part of her home life. She instilled those values in her children. She was a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Later in life she frequently attended First Baptist Church in Somerset and greatly enjoyed her time of worship there also. Her favorite Bible reading was Romans 8: 38-39. She loved reading, enjoyed solving challenging crossword puzzles, playing piano, quilting, gardening, growing beautiful flowers and in her younger years spending time on Lake Cumberland with her family and friends. She loved nature because she saw God in all his beauty. Betty never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with most anyone. She had a genuine interest in people and was always ready to help someone in need. She was the family and community historian and a great storyteller.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and sincere thank you to the Somerset Nursing and Rehab staff for the excellent care and compassion that our mother received during the last year and a half. We would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Robert Drake, Nurse Kasi and caregiver Sylvia, who Betty grew to absolutely adore. They have all gone above and beyond their duty. We would also like to thank Hospice that helped to make her final days so much better and more comfortable.
Betty will be greatly missed but is now celebrating in Heaven. In her journey of life, she was loved deeply by her family and friends.
