Bill's Obituaries

Bill (Frederick William) Dawson, age 73, of Fancy Gap, VA passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after experiencing a stroke following open heart surgery. Bill was born March 27, 1943 to Garnet C. Dawson and Esther H. Dawson.

 

Bill graduated from Mount Airy High School, Ferrum College and Appalachian State. He was a retired Carroll County High School Industrial Arts teacher. He was a lifelong fruit grower and enjoyed spending time working in his orchard. Following retirement, he met and made many friends while selling fruit at the Lexington Farmers Market. He was an active member of the Fancy Gap United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher for many years.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Arthur and Minnie Dawson; and a special aunt, Clennie Dawson. He is survived by his wife, Linda Utt Dawson; daughters and sons-in-laws, Angela and Glenwood Beamer, and Beth and B.J. Ayers; mother, Esther H. Dawson; grandchildren, Matthew and Kayla Beamer, Brittany and Scott Sherrill, and Caroline Ayers; two brothers, Porter Dawson and David Dawson; two sisters, Rebecca Bradfield and Elizabeth Towe; and several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Layne Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Sky View Cemetery.

 

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to Fancy Gap United Methodist Church 793 Old Appalachian Trail Fancy Gap, VA 24328.
