Billie Glen Covey was born on July 12, 1922 in Milano, TX to William and Media Hensley (Nelson).
She was a graduate of Milano High School, and in 1960 she met William (Bill) Covey, and they were married in 1963. They ran the Palestine Feed and Supply and Fertilizer store on Reagan Street until retirement in early 1980's.
Billie loved to travel throughout her lifetime, taking memorable road trips with her husband Bill, traveling to Hawaii, or celebrating her 80th birthday with a family trip to visit daughter Joyce in Alaska. Closer to home she enjoyed sewing with her sister Mary Jo, playing cards or dominoes with friends, and staying active in her community.
She served as a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 80 years, beginning in Rockdale, TX and achieving her lifetime pin in Palestine. She also served as a member of Altrusa International, serving her community by promoting the importance of literacy. Always with a smile, she greeted visitors at Palestine Regional Hospital by volunteering with the sunshine Guild, working in the hospital gift shop and providing assistance to those in need. Billie was always ready to lend a helping hand and a warm smile.
A strong woman grounded in her faith, she was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 60 years, singing in the Joy Choir, volunteering in the nursery, and attending church services and Sunday school.
Her greatest joy was her family. She always cherished her family coming together for special occasions and holidays. Her house was always filled with plenty of good food, laughter, love, and remembrance. Billie Glen Covey is what made her house a home. She is what always drew her family back to Palestine, back to a home of lasting love.
We love you with all of our hearts Mamaw, and we'll miss you. Your beautiful smile, your giving soul, and a heart so overflowing with love. We will miss the solid rock of our family.
