Billy Gene Ringo (Bill, age 88) of Bremen, passed away in his home with his family at his side at 2:30 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2026, after a short illness. He was born March 7, 1937 to Arlie and Audrey (Sharpe) Ringo in Jasonville, IN. Married to Paula Jayne Skomp on March 3, 1956, they spent 70 years together. Bill was a graduate of Jasonville High School and worked as a lineman for Public Service Indiana for 16 years. Later, he attended Indiana State University, earning a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ed.S. His career in education took him from starting the I.C.E. Work-Study Program at Bremen High School in 1972 to Asst. Principal at Martinsville H.S., Principal at North Putnam and Shakamak High Schools, Superintendent at Shoals and Alexandria Schools, then retiring as Superintendent of the North Knox Corporate School System in 2000. Active in several fraternal organizations, Bill was a member of the Masonic Temple and Shriners in Terre Haute, the Scottish Rite of South Bend, Elks Club in Bicknell, Moose Lodge in Linton and numerous educational boards and organizations. Bill was an avid reader, but happiest when hunting and fishing. He enjoyed raising his many “bird” dogs and had numerous hunting and fishing trips to several states. He and Paula traveled the U.S. and spent a few winters in Florida. In his final days, many times he said that he had a good life doing the things he enjoyed. Bill was “Dad” to Kim (Joe) Berretto, Bargersville; Kerry (Rex) Huff, Bremen; son-in-law, John Curtis, Carmel; 6 grandchildren, Lindsay Harless, Drew Naragon, Abbey Yoder, Austin Huff, Justin Curtis, Katie Williams; and 8 great-grandchildren, Gracie McKinney, George McKinney, Carter Naragon, Kaden Ferrand, Ella Naragon, Ilah Yoder, Ivy Yoder and Audrey Williams. He is also survived by his niece, Cherri Farris and nephew, Bob Ringo, and their families. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Curtis and brother, Robert Ringo.
Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Worthington, IN.
