Not sure what to say?

We are so sorry for the loss. He was a good and dedicated man to family, church and the community. Bob never met someone he couldn't tell a story to. Jennie has been waiting and now they are together again. Prayers for all.

Have known Bob since the 1970's when he was head basketball coach for EKU and our families were good friends. He was a wonderful father and good Christian. Our condolences to Emily, Rob, and their families for their lose. Peace and Blessings, Rob and Paula Beth Ciolek

What a wonderful Christian man whom our family has known for a very long time. Our prayers of comfort for Emily, Rob, their families and those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed. God bless Bob.

I had a Great impression of Bob as a basketball player, coach & the end of his High School career as Athletic Director at HCHS. I was equally impressed with him as a person. I visited him a few times at Home Place (Adams Lane) Assisted Living during the last 1.5 years. He was always pleasant in our conversations over the years. I’ll miss him!!

My impression of Bob Mulcahy is that he was the epitome of a Southern gentleman! It saddens me to hear of his death.

Fr. Anthony Shonis

Bob was a wonderful friend that Bill and I both enjoyed talking with and sharing fun memories. He had such a fun career and was truly such an interesting person to know! He and Jenny were a lovely couple and we were delighted to have known them.

Rob & family, I’m so sorry for the loss of your father.

So honored to know Bob. He treated me with respect and was truly an admirable and inspirational human being. He leaves quite a legacy!!! I will never forget him. Rest in peace.

BOB's Obituary

Robert “Bob” L. Mulcahy, 94, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, following a brief illness.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Virgil and Lula Mulcahy.

Bob enjoyed a distinguished and wide-ranging career in basketball as both a player and a coach.  He played high school basketball at Lexington Lafayette High School under Hall of Fame coach Ralph Carlisle.  As a junior in 1949, his Lafayette team finished as Kentucky High School State Runner-up to Owensboro High School and their standout player, Cliff Hagan.  In 1950, Bob led Lafayette to the Kentucky High School Championship, earning First Team All-State honors and receiving the highest number of votes for the Kentucky All-Star team, which competed against the Indiana and Ohio All-Stars.

He chose to continue his basketball career at Eastern Kentucky University, where he also met the love of his life, Jennie Chattin of Ashland.  Bob started as a freshman, played four years for EKU, and captained the 1952–53 team that won the OVC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

After college, Bob played one professional season with the Washington Generals before entering the U.S. Army in 1955 as a Lieutenant.  Following three years of military service, he became the Head Basketball Coach at Louisville (KY) Seneca High School.  Over five seasons, he led the Redskins to a remarkable 124–14 record and to the 1961, 1963, and 1964 Regional Championships.  His 1963 and 1964 teams won consecutive Kentucky State Championships and featured two KHSAA Mr. Basketball honorees—Mike Redd in 1963 and Wesley Unseld in 1964.  The 1963 team was regarded as one of the top five high school teams in the nation that year.  Unseld later became a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bob then joined newly hired University of Kansas coach Ted Owens as an Assistant Coach for three seasons, also coaching the Men’s Tennis team for one year. After leaving Kansas, he became the Head Basketball Coach at the University of South Dakota, where he guided the Coyotes to the 1971–72 North Central Conference Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted into the University of South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1989.

In 1974, Bob returned to Kentucky to coach at his alma mater, Eastern Kentucky University, for three seasons.  After a year in the insurance industry, he moved to Henderson County (KY) High School, coaching for four seasons and securing three District Championships and three Regional Runner-up finishes. He concluded his career in education and as Athletic Director at Henderson, retiring in 1992.

Throughout his life, Bob was honored by numerous sports Halls of Fame for his accomplishments as both a player and a coach, including: Dawahare’s Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame; the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame; the University of South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame; the Lexington Lafayette Hall of Fame; the Louisville Seneca Hall of Fame; and the Eastern Kentucky University Hall of Fame as a member of the 1952–53 basketball team.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jennie Chattin Mulcahy.

Bob is survived by one son, Rob Mulcahy and his wife, Donna, of Henderson, Kentucky; one daughter, Emily Brohm and her husband, Mike, of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jacob Mulcahy, Shelbi Mulcahy, Sarah Mulcahy, Matt Brohm and his wife, Meredith, Jenilee Wedding and her husband, Andrew, Ryan Brohm and his wife, Allyson, and Jordan Brohm; and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon, with visitation to follow in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.  Father Benjamin J. Newland will officiate.
