Not sure what to say?

I worked with Boyd at Sears back in the 90s when I was in high school. He was a good man and I'm grateful to have known him. Love you Boyd.

Boyd has made a difference in so many people's lives. I'm glad we had the opportunity to know him! He was a wonderful man!

Dear Mousley Family:
I have many memories from my Bluffdale days and beyond with your folks. They were/are an adorable couple. Larna and I were engaged in many enriching “teacher chats”. When we lived up that way, we enjoyed running into them all over the place. We always had great visits and catching up to do. They were always kind and loving. It’s been especially nice to have a connection now that Steve and DeeAnn and Kevin and Debbie are neighbors of my parents. We send our love and...

We love Boyd and Larna. Boyd will be missed. I remember that they were always together whenever I saw them. The love they shared was awesome.

The best mentor and a best friend. My privilege to have known and loved this great man !

I am sorry to hear of his passing. We loved him and Lorna now for several years. We have great memories of him when he lived in the 1st ward and as our Bishop. He is a great man and we will miss him.

I remember Boyd when he served as the Bishop of Bluffdale 1st Ward. I was a young girl of age 8 when he came into our lives as we moved from Midvale to Bluffdale. Nanette was one of the first girls to welcome me. Lorna was so kind and helpful. Their family set a wonderful example of kindness and service that inspired me through out my life.

Boyd's Obituary

Boyd Hyrum Mousley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, educator, and faithful servant of the Gospel, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 91. His memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to the countless lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion.

Born on July 31, 1933, in Bluffdale, Utah, to Lewis Henry and Ruth MacFarlane Mousley, Boyd grew up in a close-knit family alongside his siblings, sharing an especially deep bond with his brother Gordon (“Moose”). Raised in Bluffdale, he graduated from Jordan High School, where his passion for sports blossomed as he excelled in football, basketball, and track. Boyd pursued his calling as an educator, earning a Bachelor of Education and later a Master of Education from Brigham Young University. His distinguished career in education culminated as Vocational Coordinator at Hillcrest High School in the Jordan School District, where he inspired generations of students with his dedication and mentorship.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Boyd lived a life anchored in faith, service, and love. He served as bishop of the Bluffdale 1st Ward for many years, guiding his congregation with compassion and strength. His commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life, reflected in his roles as a mentor, friend, and spiritual leader.

On April 8, 1954, Boyd married the love of his life, Larna Carson, a union later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Boyd’s devotion to his family was matched only by his enthusiasm for sports, particularly as a lifelong BYU fan. He loved cheering for the Cougars during football and basketball games or between seasons supported the men’s and women’s volleyball teams or any team wearing his Cougar blue, his spirited loyalty was infectious. Boyd coached both his daughters in softball instilling in his youngest a lifetime love of sports. Boyd was a skilled builder and was the building inspector for Bluffdale City for a time. He built the family’s first home and helped as Steve and Deanne built their home. He contributed to building the Bluffdale ward house and the Riverton ballpark. Boyd’s wit shone through every Sunday as he chuckled over the comics during breakfast, Blondie and Dagwood held a special place in his heart. He mastered the art of the dad joke long before they became a trend. Many favorite memories come from him making up nonsense lyrics to songs. Boyd shared a unique bond with his grandson Justin, who regards him as the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.)

Boyd is survived by his cherished wife, Larna; his son, Steve (Deanne) Mousley (Shawn and Shana); his daughters, Nannette (Doug) Rolfe (Cole and Tyson) and DeAnn Marshall (Justin, Blaine, and Garrett); his sister, Karolyn (Rodney) Bills and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ruth Mousley; his brother, Gordon; and his sister, Joy Howell.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all those who took such good care of Boyd during the last year of his life.  They would especially like to share their gratitude to Blanca and Jose who maintained Boyd’s dignity throughout his last days.
