Guest Book

Not sure what to say?

Boyd was one of my band mates. We made lots of wonderful music in the baritone section He was the best and the loudest. We had a blast in that section. Everyone could always hear the baritones with Boyd at the helm! He was so much fun, I’m sure his family will miss him. Praying for him and his family!

Boyd is in our thoughts and prayers. He was greatly appreciated as a skilled craftsman and mentor at Hardner- Doyle Company and Perry Construction. His energy and vivacious personality will certainly be remembered.
Sincerely,
Cheryl and Mike Doyle

So sorry to hear about Boyd . We met Boyd when delivering Meals On Wheels and he would fill in and help Kay when she needed someone to drive. I know he and Kay had many enjoyable and memorable vacations they love to share what they saw, and who they met along the way with the rest of us . Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kay and family.

Boyd's Obituary

Boyd Eugene Nelson AVON PARK, FL, FORMERLY OF EDINBORO, PA -

It is with heartfelt sadness that we share the news of the passing of Boyd Eugene Nelson, 77, of Avon Park, FL., September 23rd, 2025, after a short illness.  Boyd was born on October 7th, 1947, in Meadville, PA., to Elmer E. and Marian (Rhoades) Nelson. The family moved in the late 1940s to their family homestead, where they attended the First Baptist  Church of Edinboro, where Boyd grew his love of the Lord and was baptized. He graduated from General McLane High School in 1965.  Boyd married the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, Jacklyn  A. (Knobloch), on December 30th, 1964. Together they welcomed four beautiful children, until her death from Breast Cancer in 1989.

Boyd taught his children the family passion for making “The Best Home Made Sauerkraut.” In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and landscaping  the many acres that the family lived on. His favorite saying was “Just a  poor ‘lil farm boy tryin’ to get along.”  Boyd joined the Laborers Local Union 603, after graduation. Boyd will be remembered by many for his mentoring and patience in sharing his construction knowledge with all who sought his help.  Boyd believed in a firm handshake agreement, a hard day of work, and sharing a beer with Fred Swift and friends at “the horseshoe”.

Boyd was lucky enough to have met and married Catherine (Kay)  Komoroski. They enjoyed traveling throughout the East Coast, as well as to Hawaii, and to see many of the National Parks.  After retiring from the Union in 2002, he returned to work for Ordner  Construction, where he became Senior Construction Superintendent/Project Manager, where he supervised large building construction, with his final project being an Amazon Distribution Center in  Lakeland, FL.  After settling in Avon Park and retiring for the last time, Boyd found that he loved to read and collect and repair clocks of all shapes and sizes.  He enjoyed his “Front Porch Coffee Gang” in the mornings with his coffee buddies and cruising around the community on his golf cart where he and  Kay enjoyed many friendships. He loved sharing his knowledge and problem-solving with anyone who would ask.

His siblings include Warren (Phyllis) Nelson of New Kensington, PA.,  Norma (late Donald) Dunton of Jonesboro, AR, the late Virginia (John) Falk of Waterford, PA., Darlene (Daniel) Tysiachney of Edinboro, PA., and  Muriel (James) Reighard of Albion, PA. Boyd and Jacklyn were blessed with four loving children: Kimberly (Owen)  McCormick of Erie, PA., Pamela (James) Stumpo of Sebring, FL., Jeffrey  (Kris) Nelson of Edinboro, PA., Mark (April) Nelson of Lake City, PA., and  Son-in-law Robert Adams of Edinboro, PA.  Boyd is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Catherine (Kay  Komoroski) Nelson, whom he married in 1993. Their unconditional love for each other triumphed over the past 32 years.

Boyd’s legacy continues with 13 grandchildren; Owen (Anna)  McCormick; Julia (Thomas) Stripe; Mary (Zachary) Herman; Gerard  (Julianna) McCormick; Patrick McCormick; Jacob (Jenna) Adams; Jacklyn  (Corey) Blood; Thomas Adams; Stephanie (Timothy) Gwinn; Andrew  (Abby) Nelson; Tyler Nelson; Benjamin (Kara) Nelson; and Caroline  Nelson. He was the hero to 18 great-grandchildren (and counting).

“Big Papa” never once forgot to send a birthday card and gift to his dearest little ones. Ava; Emma; Owen; Mary; Claire; Mac; Maria; Theodore;  Cecilia; Harrison; Eleanor; Colt; Charlotte; Levi; Weston; Logan; Brandon;  and the late infant Walker-Levi William Nelson.

Boyd has had many dear and loyal friends in Pennsylvania, the East Coast, and Florida, who greatly enriched his life. The camaraderie he shared with these friends was unmatched. The laughs, the tears, the gripes, the solutions, and ideas are endless. The legacy of “Gentle Ben”, as his closest friends knew him, will live on forever, and as Boyd would say “BE-ALRIGHT!”

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro, Pa, on October 3rd at 10 am. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Building Fund at St John's Global Church, 33631 Grand Prix Dr, Sebring, FL 33872.
