SHERMAN- Brett Keith Freligh, 47, of Sherman, NY, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 16, 2025, following a brave battle with cancer. He was born May 12, 1978, in Erie, PA, the son of Jan Freligh and Darlene Peelman Seekings.
He was a 1996 graduate of Sherman Central School. He then worked as a parts manager for the Chautauqua County Highway Department in Sherman before becoming a Corrections Officer for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department in Mayville, where he was a proud member of the CERT team.
Brett enjoyed mowing his lawn, golfing, rooting for the Buffalo Bills and lifting weights. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Kochanowski Freligh, whom he married July 25, 1998 in Findley Lake, NY, his daughter, Bailey (Matthew) Freligh of Ripley, NY, a son, Dawson Freligh of Sherman, NY, his parents, Jan (Sandy) Freligh of Sherman, NY and Darlene (Monty Sr) Seekings of French Creek, NY, seven siblings, Scott Freligh, Jon (Jade) Seekings, Monty (Courtney) Seekings, Megan Seekings, Ashley Freligh, Kaitlyn (Zack) Burroughs, and Katrina (Alan) Abrams, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also looking forward to being a Grampy to his grandson, Crew.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St). A reception will be held immediately after visitation at the Chautauqua Suites Hotel and Expo Center in Mayville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to CCSEA – LODD Team (Inner Lakes FCU, 19 E Main St, Westfield, NY 14787.
