Captain Russell F. Revenew

Captain Russell Revenew set sail for his final voyage into the ever after on Friday, July 13th at the impressive age of 98.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lynn (Kenneth) Nitz of Schererville, IN and Luann Marie Revenew (John Majeski) of Golden, CO; five granddaughters (Dawn, Amy, Sara, Elyse, and Tedi); and five great grandchildren (Emma, Joshua, Matthew, Cora and Brynn).

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence Revenew (nee Vogel); son Chuck and daughter-in-law, Kathy; parents Lillian (nee Gauthier) and Edward Revenew; and brother Robert.

Russell was born in Two Rivers, WI and graduated with honors from Lincoln High School in 1938. He served as a Merchant Marine in WWII as a U.S. hospital ship officer stationed in the Indian Ocean.

After settling in Munster, IN, he worked as a ship Captain for Sinclair Oil based in the Port of Chicago for 40 years, retiring at 68 to enjoy a life of travel and ballroom dancing with his wife into their 80s.

A wake will be held at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home in Schererville on Friday, July 20th , 2018 from 3 – 7 pm.  The funeral will be Saturday, July 21st at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Schererville at 10:30 am. Prayers will start at the funeral Home on Saturday at 9:45 am and then go in procession to the church.  The Captain’s final resting place will be Memory Lane in Schererville.

A lifelong dog lover and rescuer, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in his name to Humane Indiana (http://humaneindiana.org/donate).
