Carlos's Obituary

Carlos A. Nuñez, age 18, of Lake Station, IN passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Carlos was born on August 19, 2003 in Tecate, Mexico to Carlos Sr. and Maria Nuñez.  He attended Thomas A. Edison High School in Lake Station and was a member of the wrestling, track, and football teams and played the tuba in the band.  Carlos loved hanging out with his friends.  He enjoyed driving his golf cart and dreamed of a car of his own.  He had so many dreams and decided on his future career of being an air traffic controller.

Carlos, or “Oso” as he was known to his family, was the glue that held them all together.  He worried about everyone and was a protector to all.  Carlos was popular and loved other people; his respectful and kind nature defined who he was.  He was a caretaker, a teddy bear, and was always grateful and polite with everyone.  He never met a stranger and treated everyone equally, earning him the love and respect of every person he encountered.  Carlos is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Carlos is survived by his parents, Carlos Sr. and Maria Nuñez; siblings: Becky (Lonnie) Bailey, Esterelena Nuñez, Pablo Nuñez, and Jennifer Nuñez; maternal grandmother: Rosario Silva; niece: Isabella Bailey; nephew: Cristian Bailey; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; extended family member and principal: Christine Pepa; amazing friends; and beloved dogs: Marcus and Max.

Carlos is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.

Carlos’ family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who helped out monetarily and said prayers for him and his family.  They would also like to thank the staff of Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, the Ronald McDonald House, and Pastor Super Colon. A special thanks to the Blue Beacon Truck Wash Corporation and his many friends and co-workers there that helped with their support to make this funeral possible as well as giving him an enjoyable place to work.  Thank you also to the endless support from the community, family, friends, and teachers in Carlos’ life.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W. Old Ridge Rd, Hobart) on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 2:00-8:00 P.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. DIRECTLY from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (2447 Putnam St., Lake Station) with Fr. Jaime Perea officiating.  At rest: Calvary Cemetery.
