Carlos León SawczukAugust 18, 1943 – September 23, 2025Carlos León Sawczuk, 82, of Granada Hills, California, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.Although officially recorded as being born on August 18, 1943, Carlos was actually born on August 13 of that year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began his lifelong career as a machinist in his teens, apprenticing in a small shop in Llavallol. He went on to own a machine shop in Argentina, and after immigrating to the United States, he continued his craft by establishing another successful shop in California with his son, Walter. Carlos was a master machinist, drawn to the challenge of solving complex problems. He had a rare gift for approaching the unknown with calm confidence, trusting that with patience and skill, he could find a solution. Clients came to rely on his precision, creativity, and thoughtful approach.Carlos found joy in music, bicycling, and woodworking, and was always curious about the world around him. A self-taught learner, he kept up with the latest in technology and was known for his sharp mind, meticulous nature, and authenticity.He was a beloved figure in the Argentine community of Los Angeles, often serving as a surrogate father to many who had lost their own or lived far from them. He loved hosting large asados at his home, bringing people together over food, laughter, and conversation. His generosity, wisdom, and quiet presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.Carlos was deeply devoted to his wife of 63 years, Josephine Sawczuk, and fiercely proud of his three children: Gracie, Walter, and Axel. His love for his family was unwavering and evident in everything he did.He is survived by Josephine Sawczuk; his children, Gracie Sawczuk, Walter Sawczuk, and Axel Sawczuk; and his grandchildren, Tobias, Andrés, and Natalia, who brought him great joy. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, located on the grounds of San Fernando Mission Cemetery (11160 Stranwood Avenue, Mission Hills, CA 91345). Carlos will be in an open casket for those who wish to pay their respects. Light music will accompany the gathering, and photos of his life will be displayed.A funeral service will take place the following morning, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, followed by burial at Glen Haven Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m.Carlos will be remembered for his kindness, his craftsmanship, and the love he gave so freely.
