I first met Carol when she was tinkering with the idea of being a piano tuner, my chosen profession. It may have been one of my mentors, Hank Cahill, that introduced us, as he and Harry may have known each other, Hank was in Medicare 7,8,or 9. Carol and I enjoyed getting together to talk pianos or the (other) interesting characters we would meet on the job. Also, either she or John were in my late husband's high school class. I am so sorry for your loss. I taught Art in Alcona when I first arrived in Lincoln. Carol was the first teacher to greet me and make me feel at home. I will miss her.

Carol's Obituary

Carol A. Begian, 68, of Lincoln, (formerly of Champaign) passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Tendercare in Alpena, MI.Born June 3, 1948 to Harry and Emily (Gibbs) Begian in Detroit, she was raised in Livonia. She graduated from Michigan State University, and earned a Master’s Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. Carol married John McGuire on July 28, 1985 in Champaign Illinois. They resided there until moving to Lincoln in 1991. She was a music teacher and band director at Alcona Community Schools, where she also taught English. Carol was a kind and generous person, who had a deep feeling for the less fortunate of society. She loved NASCAR, fast cars, and her beloved cat Maris. She was especially fond of her niece, Wendy. She loved to travel. She loved nothing more than to hop into her Dodge Charger to take a new adventure.Carol is survived by her husband John, two sons, Daniel (Kendra) Alpert of Royal Oak, and Thomas McGuire of Chicago Il, two grandsons, Gavin and Caden Alpert, one sister, MaryAnn (Kenneth) Hubbard of Hubbard Lake, one brother, Daniel (Donnette) Begian of Ballwin MO, one niece, Wendy Hubbard, and two nephews, Ben and Brad Lambrechts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Emily Begian.Visitation will be at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, MI on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 2-8 pm. The will be a funeral service for Ms. Begian on Friday, Sept 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alpena. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Ivesdale, at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 3. Owens Funeral Home is assisting the family with local arrangements.Memorial donations suggested to The Alcona Humane Society.
