Our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the Oppold family in the passing of your dear mom and grandma. I was blessed to have known her when I taught at Harrisburg Elementary. She always had a smile, was kind, and supportive. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Carol Arlene (Olson) Oppold passed away peacefully at the Dougherty Hospice House on Friday, December 22, 2023. She was woman of strong faith and loved her family dearly.
Carol was born March 24, 1938 to Gerhard and Harriet “Annie” (Pickering) Olson in Brookings, SD. She attended and graduated from Volga High School in 1956.
She married Raymond Leo Oppold May 8, 1959. They moved to Harrisburg, SD and farmed there for 30 plus years. To this union, they were blessed with 7 children. Later, they divorced and Carol worked for the Harrisburg School system for 21 years. After she retired, she continued to work part time cleaning at Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg.
Carol’s greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow up. She was a huge Tiger fan and loved watching her kids participate in sporting events especially wrestling matches. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in many activities. Carol enjoyed playing softball on the Harrisburg women’s team until she was in her 50’s. She had a lot of fun playing cards with her family. She also liked to join the kids and grandkids in a game of pickup basketball in the driveway at times. Carol also loved to bake. She made the best apple pies and we were all eager to get one on our birthday. She also had some fabulous Christmas cookies that we always looked forward to. She attended Shalom Lutheran Church for many years and was part of the choir. She also took part in bible study and enjoyed fellowship with many people at her church.
Carol is survived by her children Rodney, Canton, Ron (Laurie), (Minnesota) Ricky of Canton, SD, Russell, Sioux Falls, Kristi (Jay) Bent of Dell Rapids, Roger(Pam), and Randy (Shawn) of Sioux Falls. Grandchildren, Alex &Addie Oppold, Koln (Janae) Oppold, Chris (Amanda) Voegeli, Tim (Maddie) Voegeli, Amanda (Trent) Brock, Chris Oppold, Chelsea Oppold, Chantel (Matt) Misner, Jill, Joy, Kaylena, Michael & Crystal. She has 22 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne, Rapid City, SD and sister, Donna, Estelline, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucille and brothers Allen, Kenneth and Gene and a great-granddaughter Charlie Joyce Voegeli.
Carol Oppold’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the following: Dr. Angela Meyer, Prince of Peace Assisted Living, Rehab Center, Dougherty Hospice and many friends for their support, kindness and prayers over the last couple of years.
