Stukey, Carol Ann (nee Rutledge), Carol Ann was born on November 4th, 1934 and passed into heaven on Wednesday, September 11th, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Dorothy Herrin Rutledge and William Rutledge. She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 70 years Francis Eugene Stukey; her daughters Christy Jean Davison (Alan) and Diane Carol Hebel (Todd); grandchildren Julie Davison, Sarah Davison Rockwell (Tim), Ryan Hebel (Lauren), Melody Davison, Alyssa Hebel Rucker (Derrick); great grandchildren Macie, Brennan, Wesley and Maya Hebel and Bowen, Riley and River Rucker. She is also survived by her brother William Rutledge (MaryAnn) and Joyce Rutledge Hobbs (Steve-deceased) and her beloved nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephew and great, great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Katherine Rutledge Bereitshaft.
Carol grew up in West St. Louis City, the oldest of four children. She attended Soldan-Blewitt High School and graduated from Miss Hickey's Secretarial School. She and Gene were married in April of 1966 and moved shortly thereafter to North Carolina where Gene entered Marine Corps Officer School. Upon completing his service, they returned home to St. Louis and bought their first home on Bellevue in the city.
Carol began her life long career as a Secretary at Wagner Electric, after that she took time off to raise her girls and serve her family. She also volunteered at their church. When youngest daughter Diane turned nine, Carol returned to the workforce, landing a job with the Parkway School District at River bend Elementary School, A few years later, she transferred to the brand new Highcroft Ridge Elementary school as Secretary to the Principal, Dr. Richard Overfelt and after he retired, continued in that role for Dr. Carol Stone. She retired after 35 years of service to the Parkway School District.
She was a life long volunteer who served in many roles throughout the years both in the community and at Manchester United Methodist Church. She worked as an English as a Second Language Tutor, Reading helper, youth leader, apple butter canning specialist, Sunday School teacher, member of several of the women's circles and many other church volunteer positions. She also volunteered at the Circle of Concern food pantry.
Carol was strong-willed, tenacious, fiercely loving and boldly tender-hearted. She spent her life proclaiming her faith and demonstrating it wherever she went. She loved her family deeply and we miss her larger than life presence in our lives.
Services: Funeral Service at Manchester United Methodist Church, 129 Woods Mill Rd, Manchester, Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.
