Carolus Rodney Harmon, 87, died February 9, 2026, in Virginia Beach. Born in Milton, Del., to Anna Elizabeth Ingram and Ralph Hunter Harmon, Rodney embarked on a military career as a teen. He met his wife, Sandra, while stationed in Virginia Beach. They married in 1966, and in 1967, they welcomed their only child, Sonya. After he retired from the Navy as an air traffic controller in 1977, the family settled in Virginia Beach. Rodney began a lengthy civil service career at the Naval Air Terminal in Norfolk before retiring for good in 1997.
Rodney enjoyed gardening, fixing things, and getting coffee at his favorite 7-11. He loved animals, especially dogs. Following the death of his wife in 2019, Rodney joined Enoch Baptist Church, which had been her longtime church home. With his health declining, he moved to The Waterford Assisted Living facility in July 2025 and resided there until his death.
Rodney was predeceased by both of his parents; his brothers, Carlton Ingram, Ralph Harmon Jr., Lawrence Harmon, and Harold Harmon; and his wife, Sandra. He is survived by his daughter, Sonya Harmon Holtar, and her husband, Espen; one special niece, Gina Kelly; his good friend and neighbor, Jackie Gaskins; and numerous relatives and friends.
Rodney will be laid to rest February 18, 2026, in Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach during a private service.
