Catharine McLaney

Catharine McLaney, born August 25, 1946, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025.

Cathy was the beloved daughter of the late Barney and Ivy Hope. She was a kind, patient, and humble woman whose life was marked by putting the needs of others before her own. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit, warm smile, and genuine love for people.

For many years, Cathy worked at Hartzog IGA in Crestview, a job she truly enjoyed. It allowed her to do what she loved most—meeting and greeting people. She was a true people person and cherished the fellowship she shared daily with her customers and coworkers, many of whom became friends.

Cathy found joy in simple pleasures, including working crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time fishing. She had a tender heart for animals and was always caring for and looking after any animal in need. Her faith in Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life, especially as she bravely endured numerous health challenges with grace and quiet strength.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Qumi Hope, Carol Hope, Brenda Posey, Sandy Hope, and Rosella Busbee, and by her brothers, Forrest Hope and Wayne Hope.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe McLaney; her daughter, Denise Hughes and stepdaughter, Sonya McLaney; her stepson, Joel McLaney; her brothers, Lesley Hope and Dale Hope; and her cherished grandchildren Dustin Hamm, Ashley Howard, Dakota Howard, Laci Howard, Keegan Hughes Kaylyn Allen, Joshua McLaney great granddaughter, Griffin Allen, who affectionately knew her as Grandma Kathy.

Graveside services for Catharine McLaney will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2025, at Svea Cemetery.
