Cathy's Obituary

Cathy Abigail Cortazar Cebreros was born on March 11, 1980, and peacefully passed away on her 46th birthday, March 11, 2026. She was brought into this world by her loving parents, Oscar Calderon Cebreros and Beatrice Maria Cebreros, in Blythe, California, and from the very beginning, she filled every life she touched with love, joy, and light.

Cathy shared a beautiful life with Mario Cota, her partner of 26 wonderful years. Together, they built a home full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. They raised four amazing children: Anabel Cebreros, Mario Cota Jr, Victor Cota, and Oscar Cota. She was also a grandmother-to-be, and her love already embraced her unborn grandson, who will forever carry her spirit and guidance. Cathy poured her heart into her family, offering patience, support, and unconditional love every single day.

After graduating high school in 1999, Cathy began her early career caring for children at a local daycare, sharing her love, guidance, and nurturing spirit with the little ones she taught. She also worked at Teddy Donuts, worked at the fairgrounds for many years, and held many other side jobs, always giving her all to support her family and community.

Cathy was a loving sister to her two youngest siblings, Oscar Cebreros and Arantxa Cebreros, who now carry her love here on earth, and a devoted sister-in-law to Veronica Celaya, with whom she shared a special and close bond. She was a wonderful Tía to Gisselle Rodriguez, Alexis Rodriguez, Nia Rodriguez, Jadyn Beatrice Cebreros, and a loving Nina to Viviana Rodriguez. She also brought joy and love to her great nieces and nephew: Trinity Selley Rodriguez, Victor Mario Duenaz, Violet Mae Duenaz, and Azaray Canny Rodriguez. She was always ready to celebrate their accomplishments, share in their laughter, and be a comforting presence in their lives.

Beyond her family, Cathy’s heart reached into the community. She dedicated countless hours volunteering at the local bazaar, at the church, and at the baseball park. She had recently started participating in 4-H to support her son’s interests, showing her endless dedication to nurturing growth, curiosity, and opportunity in others.

Cathy truly knew how to enjoy life and make memories with the people she loved. She loved going to the river and the beach, and was known for running straight into the water fully dressed without a second thought, just enjoying the moment. She loved fishing, taking in the peace of the water and the time spent with those around her. She also loved taking trips to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm, listening to music, dancing, and being surrounded by her family. Whether it was a big gathering or a simple moment together, Cathy found joy in it all and made sure everyone around her felt that happiness too.

Cathy had a bright spirit that touched everyone she met. Her laughter was warm and contagious, her kindness genuine, and her love unwavering. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel valued, heard, and loved. Everyone who met her knew her heart, felt her compassion, and experienced the deep devotion she carried for her family, friends, and community. She faced life with courage and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love that will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

Though Cathy’s presence will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to guide and inspire her children, her family, and her community. She now rests in eternal life alongside her beloved twin sister, Canny Rodriguez, her devoted parents, her cherished grandparents, and her brother-in-law, Mario Rodriguez. Though her time on earth was far too short, her love was immeasurable, her spirit unforgettable, and her impact everlasting.

Cathy Abigail Cortazar Cebreros will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Anabel Cebreros, Mario Cota Jr, Victor Cota, and Oscar Cota; her partner Mario Cota; her unborn grandson; her daughter-in-laws Alexis Lujan and Taylar Villanueva, her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her love was the kind that could lift spirits, heal hearts, and light up the darkest days. Her laughter, her hugs, her guidance, and her unwavering devotion will be remembered and cherished forever. Though she is no longer with us in person, her spirit will continue to live in the memories we hold, in the lessons she taught, and in the love she gave so freely. Cathy’s life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and selfless love, and the mark she left on this world will never fade. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and eternally remembered.

Visitation will be held at Frye Chapel on Tuesday, March 31st 5 - 8 p.m. with rosary starting at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 1st at 10 a.m.
