Cecelia's Obituary

On November 26, 2025, Cecelia “Sallie” (Green) Cumbow 89, passed away peacefully in Fallon, Nevada, with her devoted husband of 63 years, John M. Cumbow, by her side.

Sallie was born on July 25, 1936 in San Pedro, California to Keith Alton and Cecelia Francis (Carlson) Green.

Sallie’s father, Keith, was a career Navy man so the family moved and lived in many places all across the United States following his assignments. At a young age she married Frank and started her family with two sons Doug and Bob. Later, she married John, who was also a career Navy man, and their place of residence continued to change and their family grew with the addition of two more sons and a daughter Mike, Steven, and Cece. About 57 years ago the family settled in Fallon, Nevada; her husband’s last assigned duty station. They chose to stay in Fallon, though her children moved away, and have lived there ever since.

Sallie loved to go fishing and rock hounding. Camping became a regular family activity and she took great pleasure in these outdoor activities. Despite the loss of her right arm in a car accident at age 22, she became an excellent knitter and cook. Sallie loved to bowl and taught Fallon youth as well as her own children as a Young American Bowling Association instructor and coach for many years.

Sallie is survived by her husband John M. Cumbow, son Douglas “Doug” Carl Potter, son Michael John Cumbow, daughter Cecelia “Cece” (Cumbow) Ashliman, four grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, Merit (Doug) Potter, and Corey (Cece) Ashliman. She is preceded in death by her parents, former husband Frank Potter, son Robert (Bob) Keith Potter, son Steven James Cumbow and Rhonda (Bob) Miller.

A graveside service will be held at the Fernley Veteran’s Cemetery on December 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM
