Cecil's Obituary

Together again -

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Riverton Utah on February 25, 2026, when he rejoined his beloved wife, Joanne.

Cecil was born on July 12, 1931, in Emery, Utah to Alonzo and Wynona Olsen. He was the first of six children.

Cecil Moved to Salt Lake City where he met the love of his life, Joanne Carol English, they were later married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 14, 1957. They had a wonderful family which consisted of 4 girls and 1 boy. Carolyn, Jan, Pam, Scott, and Debra Jo. He was blessed with four Grandchildren – Whitney, Paden, Bailey, and Brittney. And seventeen Great Grandchildren.

Cecil attended grade school in Emery and High School in Ferron, Utah. Then, went on to College in Cedar City. Later in life, he went to SLCC, where he received an Electrician License and a Contractor License, he was always learning new trades.

Cecil then Joined the Air Force and later became an Air Traffic Controller in Salt Lake City. Later, he became a Facility Maintenance Supervisor in the Salt Lake City Airport. After he retired, Cecil and Joanne began to Travel to Yuma Arizona for the Winters – they became the managers of Arizona West RV Park. Many life-long friends were made during their time in Yuma. Some of the grandkids’ favorite memories were made while vacationing in Yuma with Grandma and Grandpa.

Dad enjoyed Water skiing and boating at Pine View and Flaming George. He loved Fishing at Lake Powell and enjoyed rafting down the Snake River. In his earlier years he loved to go Deer Hunting with family and friends.

Dad and Mom enjoyed their trips to Jackson Hole to see the Bar J Wranglers. Dad thoroughly enjoyed having the Family get together for any occasion, where he could watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren talk and laugh.

Dad and Mom were Charter members of the Temple Riders Motorcycle Club. They were one of six original couples to start the club. They would visit many different temples and were able to see a lot of the country. During their trips they spent many nights in pup tents and on-air mattresses. One of their favorite trips was when they followed the Morman Trail from New York to SLC.

In his later years dad Loved to go to McDonalds and Petersons with the boys. He enjoyed his visits, phone calls and texts from the lifelong friends that were made each morning.

Dad's favorite thing to do around home was mow the lawn and his field. He had the best-looking field. When it got too hard for dad to get on the Mower, Scott and Marv would go and mow the lawns each week and dad would supervise -what he did best. When it became difficult for dad to walk around, he would take his golf cart and drive around the neighborhood to visit friends. He would have his trusty shovel in the back ready to help wherever he could. He would say every year he would not have a garden, and every year he did. Scott was amazing to help dad plant, weed and water. Scott was always there to help with any of his ideas.

He enjoyed and looked forward to going to Lunch each week with Ken, Vic and Leo.

Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many different callings throughout the years. He also spent several years as a Temple Worker in the Jordan River Temple where he loved to meet and work with many different people.

He lived life to the fullest! We Love and Miss you Dearly!

We would like to Thank Joe and Alex for all the time they spent with dad – visiting, taking him to lunch and phone calls and just checking in – he looked forward to them and cherished your friendship.

The family would like to Thank the Huntsman Home Health / Hospice team for taking the most amazing care of Dad. They were there every step of the way, up and including to the very end. They listened to his stories and laughed with him, which made his days better. Words cannot explain how much Brittany and Tammy meant to Dad and how much he loved them. It would brighten his day when they would visit, he always looked forward to it.

Cecil is survived by his loving children Son Scott, Daughter Debra Jo (Marvin) Boyack, His four grandchildren, Whitney (Josh) Gochnour, Paden Olsen, Bailey (Braydon) Cannon, Brittney (Nathan) Staker, and his16 great grandchildren.
