Obituary

Cecilia Melba (Carr) Eason was born on April 2nd, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the first of three children, born to the union of William Carr and Melba (Ricard) Carr. Cecilia attended St. Agnes High School, where she graduated in 1962. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong sense of service and community. As a youth, she volunteered to help the sick through the nursing aid club, an experience that would shape her life’s calling.

Cecilia pursued a career in healthcare as a respiratory therapist, dedicating more than 50 years to the profession. Throughout her career she practiced in Michigan, California, Louisiana, and Washington. She served in many roles, including Respiratory Director, Risk Manager, and CPR Instructor. She loved her job and the people with whom she worked. The camaraderie of her peers, connecting with patients, and exchanging banter with doctors brought her immense joy. Some of her closest friendships were formed during this time.

On January 24th, 1975, Cecilia entered holy matrimony with the love of her life, Glenn Buryl Eason. They were married for 48 years, building a life rooted in family. From this union, they had two daughters, Natalie and Andrea. Cecilia also gained two stepsons through love, Glenn (“Poppa”) and Andre. After the birth of their daughters, Glenn and Cecilia moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As retirement approached, they later moved to the Greater Seattle, Washington area to be closer to their daughters.

Cecilia was a volunteer at heart. She was an active participant in her children’s schools and especially loved Girl Scouting. She served as a co-scout leader for her daughter’s troop and remained involved with the Girl Scout council for many years. Her belief in mentoring, service, and community never wavered.

She was a devoted Catholic and lived her faith through action. Cecilia volunteered for many years as a Eucharistic minister at church. She brought communion to the sick, visited those in need, and sat with those in their last moments, offering the same warm presence she shared with everyone she loved.

Cecilia was a proud lover of Detroit, her hometown, and everything Motown. She often shared stories of her youth and the memories she made growing up. Detroit was always home in her heart, and returning to visit brought her immense joy. She maintained close contact with friends from early childhood, cherishing every opportunity to reconnect.

Family meant everything to Cecilia. She maintained strong bonds with cousins near and far and enjoyed regular gatherings, including cherished cousin lunches while living in Louisiana. She made it a priority to bring her children to family events, visit elders, and reconnect with relatives whenever possible. She also formed special and meaningful relationships with her nieces and nephews as they grew, touching their lives in ways that will be fondly remembered.

Cecilia lived a life defined by faith, service, family, and love. Her compassion, dedication, and ability to connect deeply with others are her enduring legacy. On January 16th, 2026, Cecilia peacefully transitioned to heaven, reuniting with her beloved husband and loved ones who preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Natalie Eason and Andrea Eason; one stepson, Andre Eason; siblings, Ricard Carr (Rae) and Ethan Carr; brothers-in-law, Rev. Dr. Louis Eason III (Lanette), Rev. Julius Eason (Betty), and Deacon Arturo Eason; sister-in-law, Rita Williams (Charles); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, step‑grandchildren, godchildren, lifelong friends, and extended family.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Buryl Eason; her parents, William and Melba Carr; her parents-in-law, Louis II and Jewell Eason; stepson, Glenn (“Poppa”) Eason; sisters-in-law, Roberta Carr, Diane McKinnon, and Tanya Eason; and other loved ones who welcomed her home.
