Grove of 100 Trees

Charleen was such a lovely person! She welcomed me when I was a stranger to Perryton; I will always cherish her kindness and the memory of her bright smile.

Charleen was a lovely lady who had a strong sense of purpose for something other than self. She was a loving, caring person I was blessed to know .

I am a former student of Mrs. Schickedanz. She was a lovely teacher & person. Her smile brightened my day. I’ve struggled with mental health & 4th grade year is the first time I remember feeling depressed but didn’t understand what was happening. Mrs. Schickedanz was my homeroom teacher 4th grade year. I truly believe God placed me in her class at the moment I needed. I have nothing but fond memories with her. She helped me by simply being herself. She was enthusiastic about teaching...

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. May your family be filled with peace and blessings.

Charleen's Obituary

Charleen Randlee Schickedanz, 86, entered the heavenly gates Saturday, September 7, 2024.  She was born June 13, 1938, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Charles and Della Selby.  Charleen was raised in Perryton, Texas, and graduated from Perryton High School in 1956.  She then attended Kansas State and Panhandle A&M (now OPSU) and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU).  While at OPSU, she met the love of her life, Larry Schickedanz, and they were married 66 years ago on October 4, 1958.  Together they had three children Lecreca Ann, Renee Marie, and Jason Charles.

Charleen began her elementary teaching career teaching 1st grade in Borger, Texas, before moving back to her childhood home on the family farm in 1976. Upon returning to the Perryton area, Charleen stayed at home to raise their children until their youngest entered Junior High and she began teaching again in the 1st and 4th grades. Charleen took great pride in all the students she taught. She cherished the profession and professionalism of education, but most importantly the responsibility of shaping the minds, integrity, and character of the students she taught.

At an early age, Charleen had a love for horses that she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren. During the summer she was the “Horse Show Mom” as she cultured her kids in riding techniques and etiquette, while she hauled them all over the panhandle and state to various horse shows. During the falls and winters, she was a “Steer Show Mom” as she helped Larry and the kids with their show steers as he hauled them all over the state.

Charleen loved to travel, especially when that involved supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities; specifically trying to attend every ball game, rodeo, horse show, or stock show that she could. She was their biggest fan and now has the best seat in the house.

Charleen never met a stranger and subsequently had friends from all places.  She loved to travel and see many of the different areas of God’s beautiful creation.  Later in life, she enjoyed annual trips to Mazatlán, Mexico.  She cherished the mission work she and Larry were able to do there and enjoyed their time with dear friends, old and new.  Charleen loved sharing their vacation with family who were able to come visit them while in Mazatlán.

Above all, Charleen loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and loved her childhood and lifelong church, First Baptist Church of Perryton. Charleen was involved in many aspects of service with the church as she felt it was her privilege to serve her Lord and help expand His kingdom, while seeking His will.

Charleen was preceded in death by her daughter, Lecreca, parents Charles and Della Selby, in-laws Guy and Faye Schickedanz and brother-in-law and sister CW and Mary Anita Miller.  Charleen is survived by husband Larry, daughter Renee (Brant) Ward, son Jason (Amber) Schickedanz, grandchildren Callista and Sage Taliaferro, Catlyn and Emily Ward, Madelyn, Jacob, and Sydney Schickedanz, sister Corline (Grant) Jackson, son-in-law Chuck Taliaferro, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity that Charleen cherished: Operation Christmas Child at First Baptist Church in Perryton, Texas, or to your favorite charity.

A brief memorial/celebration service of Charleen’s life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Perryton, Texas, officiated by Rev. Scott Higginbotham.
