Charlene's Obituary

Charlene Davis, 91, graduated to glory on December 28, 2025. She was born to Eugene J. and Cora E. Tatum Davis on September 10, 1934 in Greensboro, NC. Charlene was educated through Guilford County schools and graduated from James B. Dudley Sr. High School in 1953 before becoming a member of the Dudley Alumni Association. She also attended Grace Lutheran Jr. College for Secretarial School and graduated in 1956. Her passion for education and belief in its significance was undeniable, and she instilled it in both her children and grandchildren. Charlene was employed by the historic O’Henry Hotel and Plantation Supper Club as a sous chef. She was also employed by Canteen Corporation at P. Lorillard, where she cooked until she retired in 2005. Her heart for service through culinary excellence was felt by family, community, and all she touched.

Charlene’s commitment to Christ and service to His people was reflected in her faithful membership at Metropolitan United Methodist Church where she was involved in the choir, Hospitality Committee, Bible Study group, 3M Ministry, and United Methodist Women. She was also a Lay Leader and loved attending the United Methodist Conferences at Lake Junaluska. Her love for God and desire to worship Him with her life and work was evident, and she never hesitated to share it with others.

Charlene also loved flowers and working in her yard. She never shied away from hard work, a requirement even for her favorite hobby of gardening. She was an amazing, Godly, and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. She leaves a profound impact on her community because of the way she opened up her home and heart to others. No matter the circumstances, she lived out an earnest desire to serve and create space for people from all walks of life.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents: Eugene J. and Cora E. Tatum Davis; six siblings: Fannie L. Davis, Catherine Davis, Priscilla D. Moore, Eugene Davis, Jr., Mary D. Jordan, and Alice Davis, as well as one daughter, Anita D. Davis.

She leaves to cherish three children: Jacqueline D. Randson (Jeryl), Charlotte, NC, Jeff E. Davis (Joni), Six Mile, SC, and Laleisa D. Cornelius (Sam), Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren: Jeneé, Jourdan, Jarrell, Judea, Jacquia, Jeuel, Jedidiah (Toryn), and Judah (Mickaela); four great-grandchildren: Doren, Taylor, Ayla, and Arlington, and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
