Obituary

Charles's Obituary

Charles Edward Bishop of Weber City, Va, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2026, at age 81, leaving a void his family cannot fill. Born on September 28, 1944 in Clinchport, Va to the late Luther and Nannie Bishop, he was a true family man. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bishop; & 2 sisters, Patsy Propest and Margaret Gillenwater,

He was a devoted husband to Barbara Bishop (Rhoton) for 59 years; a loving father to Jeff, Jennifer, and Eric; and a doting grandfather to all his grandchildren.  Though he may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of familial love honored. He was a man of great integrity, patience, and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He was a hard-working and dedicated man. He spent over 25 years working at the Tennessee Eastman Corporation, now known as Eastman Chemical Company, and prior to that he was the local milk man. He was known by everyone for his dependability, punctuality, and strong work ethic. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions.

His hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He loved mowing the yard, cooking soup beans and cornbread for his family, and tinkering around the house and in his garage. He enjoyed working crosswords, sudokus, and puzzles after breakfast and watching westerns, the news, game shows, especially Jeopardy, and Hallmark movies around Christmas time. He loved visiting and talking with loved ones throughout the day. He was a man that thrived under a routine, and at the end of the day, you could always find him watching tv on the couch beside his wife under his Sherpa blanket.

He was an exceptional man who was loved by anyone who was privileged enough to be touched by his heart. There are not enough words to articulate his life in just a few words, but if there is any one thing that he would want to be remembered by, it would be his faith. He was a deacon and member at Crossway Baptist Church for many years, and he was always eager to open the church doors and sit front and center at every service. He loved the Lord, God’s Word, and his church family. He was a true light to the world. Charles never complained and always had a smile on his face.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bishop; his children, Jeffrey Bishop (Lynn), Jennifer McConnell (Chad), and Eric Bishop; his grandchildren, Joel (Elena), Anna, Ethan, Tyler, Caitlin, and Alyssa; his very special great granddaughter, Skylan; and his brother Danny (Barbara). He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Daniel and Nannie Ellen Bishop; and his siblings Robert Bishop, Patsy Sue Propest, and Margaret Gillenwater.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Colonial Funeral Home. Service will begin at 6 PM with Pastor Aaron Edens officiating. Edens Family Trio will provide music.

Graveside service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Pastor Aaron Edens will officiate. Joel Bishop, Ethan Bishop, Tyler Johnson, Scotty Riner, Brandson Hensley and Lane Newsome will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Anderson and the caring staff in the Cath-Lab at Holston Valley Medical Center.
