Charles William Colbert, Jr.November 30, 1942- March 13, 2012Charles William Colbert, Jr., age 69, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 30, 1942 in Columbus, Mississippi to Charles Colbert, Sr. and Irene Corzine Colbert. Charles proudly served as a letter carrier for 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, he joined his wife as a volunteer at Wadley Hospital. As the Tuesday morning golf cart driver his riders were sure to receive encouraging words and a peppermint along with their ride. He never met a stranger.One of the greatest joys of his life were his four granddaughters. The best medicine he received during his battle with cancer was the time he spent with them. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Veronica Cigainero Colbert, two sons and one daughter-in-law: Jeff and Melinda Colbert of Texarkana; Mark Colbert and fiance, Theresa Stalker also of Texarkana; one daughter and son-in-law; Nancy and Allen Thomas of North Little Rock, two brothers and one sister-in-law: Jim and Mary Ann Colbert of Texarkana; Ronald Colbert of Worlington, England; four granddaughters: Haley and Madison Colbert of Texarkana and Mary Claire and Sarah Beth Thomas of North Little Rock.He was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Wadley Hospital Auxilary, NARFE and NALC. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly from 1964-1970.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: CARTI Foundation, PO Box 55011, Little Rock, AR 72215 or to Arkansas Children's Hospital, Patient Care Fund, #1 Children's Way, Slot 661, Little Rock, AR 72202.A very special thank you to Aleena, Charles' Hospice nurse with Dierksen Hospice. A prayer/Rosary service will be held Friday, March 16, at Texarkana Funeral Home - Texas Blvd. at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow.The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Worm and Deacon David Fowler officiating.
