SAGE, Charles, E., Sr., “Chuck” 85, of Orchard Park, New York passed away on April 4, 2014. Beloved brother of Robert J. Sage (companion, Carolyn Gorczyca) of Hamburg, devoted grandfather to Jennifer L. Sage also of Hamburg, beloved uncle and "second father" to Nancy S. Cole (husband, Charles) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Robert J. Sage, Jr of Sinclairville, Margaret S. Hanrahan of Orchard Park, Michael D. Sage (wife, Susan) of Vancouver, WA, granduncle of Sara Cole, Sean and Jamie Hanrahan, Autumn and Robyn Sage. Stepfather of JoAnne Henderson (husband, John ) and beloved step grandfather to Jonathan Custard-Jarosz of Buffalo, Aurelia Custard-Jarosz (companion Nick Machowski)of Buffalo, David Custard-Jarosz and companion Jenna Witczak of Blasdell, Jennifer Custard-Jarosz of Brooklyn and Nathan and Julianne of Buffalo.
Chuck was predeceased by both his first wife, Ann F. Sage and second wife, JoAnne C. Sage, his son, Charles "Skip" E. Sage, Jr. , his parents, Fred R. Sage and Margaret M. Sage and two brothers Kenneth and Nelson Sage and a sister-in-law, Eleanor V. Sage. Chuck was a Korean War veteran, a car inspector for the South Buffalo Railway and an avid outdoorsman. When he was younger he was a deer hunter and also hunted moose and bear in Canada, as well as fishing commercially on Lake Erie. Later in life, he and his late wife, JoAnne, demonstrated their love of nature by volunteering as wildlife rehabilitators with Messinger Woods. Quick of wit and with a good sense of humor, Chuck entertained friends and family with his stories and quick retorts. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends alike. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Wake on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 3 PM to 7 PM at the (Blasdell/Lackawanna Chapel) JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, INC. 3450 South Park Ave. where a Memorial Service will follow at 7 PM. A reception will be held at the Armor Inn 5381 Abbott Road at 8 PM.
