Charles's Obituary

     Charles Gentry JR, 87, of Williamson, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at his residence.  Charles was born September 13, 1936, in Stringtown, KY, the son of the late Johnny Gentry and Bessie Hughes.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Gentry; son, Danny Wayne Gentry; sisters, Anna (Lloyd) Slone and Susie McCoy; brother, Simon Gentry; son-in-law, Victor Steenbergen, daughter-in-law, Joni Gentry and two grandsons, Brian Miller and Riley Maynard.  He was a former construction worker and a member of the Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church.  Survivors include his children, Molly (Johnny) Dingess of Merrimac, WV, Mevis (Willard) Clevenger of Red Jacket, WV, Johnny (Vanessa) Gentry of Vulcan, WV, Marlene (Michael) Whitt of Delbarton, WV, Joyce (Berman) Jewell of Chattaroy, WV, Lucy Steenbergen of Turkey Creek, KY, Charles "JuneBug" Gentry of Columbus, Ohio and Norma Gentry of Merrimac, WV; grandchildren, Charles "CC" (Charles) Lester, Bobby (Keisha) Maynard, Joseph Montana Maynard, Cheryl (Kris) Preece, Johnny (Michelle) Dingess, Frank (Alice) Clevenger, Kristy Noe, Savannah (Brandon) Ward, Edward (Audrea) Gentry, Thrista (Steven) Robinette, Cassandra Meade, Marlena Whitt, Michael (Lexie) Whitt, Berman (Lauren) Jewell, Danny (Angel) Steenbergen, Kimberly Steenbergen, Teresa (Jake) Teeters, Amanda (Curtis) Banbury, and Charles Jr. (April) Gentry; thirty five great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 12 PM with the funeral service at 1 PM, with Kris Preece officiating.  Burial will follow in the Merrimac Cemetery, Merrimac, WV, with his family serving as pallbearers.  R.
