Not sure what to say?

Coach. It hurt when I found out. I am sorry I could not attend your memorial service. I was not the best student you ever taught, as I had the worst problem with authority. But you never gave up on me. You pushed me in track, and in history. Although 2001-2005 was a long time ago, you had a huge impact on my life. The worst part of this whole thing is I never got to apologize to you for being that insubordinate student who slept in class, talked back, and gave up on myself. I hope you...

So very sorry for the loss of this wonderful man who spent his life in service to those around him. He was beloved by so many and will be dearly missed.

Pat was an amazing man, coach, teacher, and father. I had the honor of having him as my drivers ed teacher and cross country coach. Though I was the slowest on the team, Ill never forget him at the finish line encouraging me in or the times he took me for driving practice- patience of a saint, and fearless! My condolences to the family, esp Michele!

Pat started Newman´s cross country program. In 1982 they were the district champions.

Noel and family, my deepest condolences. Pat was a good friend and coworker with my mom, Nancy Bufano. I recall my parents telling us about the CN games they attended.

Kyle graduated in 2007 and had Pat for many subjects, but the most memorable subject was Driver´s Education. And I quote:" SMOG it, Seatbelt, Mirror, Over the shoulder, look...GO LIKE HELL!" Condolences to you Noel....

His memory is a blessing.

Pat touched so many lives in the very best way. I'm grateful I had the privilege of knowing him and calling him a friend. Noel and family our deepest sympathy and prayers! Noel, we may be separated by miles but we will always be there for you. We are family in our hearts.

Obituary

Charles's Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Pat" LaFortune, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and coach. Pat tragically lost his life in a devastating 12-car accident.

Pat was born in Hagersville, Ontario, Canada. After becoming a United States citizen, he served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1968, as a medic in Vietnam.

Pat dedicated 51 years to teaching, 46 of which were at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, California as a teacher and coach, making him the school's longest-serving faculty member. He taught Earth Science, Mathematics, Driver's Education & Training, and was Chair of the Social Studies and P.E. departments for many years. Pat coached football, baseball and track and field, then created the school's cross country program in 1979. He coached both cross country and track and field at CN for 40 years until he retired. The track was named in his honor in 2013. He was also a well-known referee for football and basketball in the North Bay.

Pat loved teaching and coaching. He was deeply committed to his students and athletes, both in the classroom and on the field. He was known for his dedication to their growth and well-being, leaving a lasting impact on the lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Noël Schumacher LaFortune; his children, Michele Yockey (Ron), Michael LaFortune (Michelle), and Jonathan LaFortune (Adrianne); and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Houston (Fred), and brothers, Michael LaFortune (Liz) and David LaFortune (Trish).

His loss is deeply felt by all.
