Charles L. “Buster” Pruett, 82, a lifelong resident of Burkburnett, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 13, 1943.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Burkburnett with Dr. Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Burkburnett Cemetery.
Buster loved all things outdoors, especially fishing, mowing, and spending time at his lake house at Little Glasses in Madill, Oklahoma. A place that brought him peace and happiness. In his early years, he worked as a mechanic and was known for always fixing something, a skill and mindset he carried throughout his life.
In 1979, Buster began his career with Burkburnett Independent School District as Transportation Director. He faithfully served the district for more than 35 years, retiring in June 2014. His strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication left a lasting impact on the students, staff, and community he served.
Buster was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Jay Pruett and Ida Elizabeth Roberts; his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Sue Bradley Pruett; his son, Bobby Pruett; and his siblings, Lois Malone, Charlene Cook, and Sue Warren.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Buck) Pruett and wife MaryAnne from Duncan, OK, two daughters, Theresa Arrington and husband Paul from Iowa Park, TX, and Christy Steigerwald and husband Steve from Burkburnett, TX; his grandchildren, Josh Arrington and wife Lisa, Adam Arrington and wife Kyla, Brad Pruett, Matt Steigerwald and wife Madie, and Taylor Steigerwald; and seven great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his precious fur baby, Mia, who held a special place in his heart.
Buster will always be remembered for his love of family, his work ethic and his unpredictable humor.
