So very sorry to hear about Uncle Sonny. Wish we could be there in person to pay our respects. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

To the family of Sonny,
He was a fun class of 1955 Wendell L. Willkie High School member.
I remember him working at Ralph's A&W Root Beer Stand with fellow classmates, Gib Schuck, Nancy Davies, Ann Rose, and others.
I do remember he loved to fish and the award he got for his lawn when he lived in Elwood.
Sonny came to a couple of class reunions and we were so glad to see him.
To the family, we send our Blessings and Prayers.
Enjoy your next journey with...

We offer our deepest condolences during this difficult time

Charles (Sonny)'s Obituary

Charles O. “Sonny” Werline, age 83 of Tipton and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home following a brief illness.  He was born March 1, 1936 in Elwood, the son of Conrad J. and Hilda W. (Henderson) Werline.  Sonny was raised in St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph School until his junior year of high school.  He later graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1955.  Sonny worked for 35 years in skilled trades at Ex-Cello Corporation in Elwood until they closed operations.  He then went to work at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo for 10 years as a Millwright before retirement in 2001.  Sonny married Shirley A. Atwood on March 10, 1990, and they shared 29 years of marriage together.  He was formerly a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge and the Elwood Moose Lodge for many years.  Sonny was known for being very meticulous in caring for his home and property, and received one of the first ever “Pride Awards” in Elwood when he lived on South I Street.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan, enjoyed fishing, formerly enjoyed hunting, and was a very good dancer back in the day.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sonny’s extended family includes his wife, Shirley Werline of Tipton; 8 children, Greg (Sharon) Werline of Anderson, David Werline (Christy McCool) of Elwood, Kathy (Randy) King of Kokomo, Tina (Dan) Roe of Goldsmith, Pam (Kenny) Lehman of Elwood, Barney (Jill) Cole of Elwood, Celeste (Dean) Rinks of Crawfordsville, and Jeff (Tisha) Lynas of Crawfordsville; 3 siblings, Jerry (Grace) Werline of Elwood, Jean (Leo) Conwell of Anderson, and Susie (Dave) Hoffer of Anderson; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda Werline of Elwood and Bonnie Werline of Florida; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Sonny was preceded in death by both his parents; 4 siblings, Jack Werline, Barbara Fish, Anna Kelich, and Jim Werline; and 2 grandchildren, Josie Lynas and Colin Winings.

A funeral service celebrating Sonny’s life will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Father Dennis Goth of St. John’s Catholic Church in Tipton officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 6 pm prior to the funeral on Wednesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
