He is gone but not forgotten from the very first time i started working at consalota and got to know you and took care of you it was something that fell on me that connected me to you at very first site... Even though that you are gone and rest in easy i will always miss you!!! you turned my nights to days even when i was down ... I often feel lost because you are not there anymore but I know that you are in a better place now without no more pain suffering and sorrow.. So as you REST IN...

Charles "Speedy"'s Obituary

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Charles "Speedy" Delahoussaye Sr., 90, who passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Consolota Nursing Home. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant.

 

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Delahoussaye was born on September 29, 1926 to the late Walter and Nita LaSalle Delahoussaye. A veteran of World War II, he honorably served our country in the 45th Air Repair Squadron of the U.S. Army, and was employed by Schlumberger for 38 years. An active member at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Mr. Delahoussaye was also a longtime volunteer at the St. Francis Diner. "Speedy's" hobbies included hunting, fishing, being outdoors, especially working in his yard, and helping anyone in need. He dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Peltier Delahoussaye of New Iberia; sons, Charles L. Delahoussaye, Jr. and wife Mary of New Iberia, John Delahoussaye and wife Elizabeth of Knoxville, TN, David Delahoussaye of New Iberia; daughters, Mary Beth Comeaux of Lafayette, Donna Bennett and husband Brian of Lewiston, New York, Patricia Duplechin and husband Harold of Lafayette; sisters, Martha Borel of New Iberia, Dorothy Escuriex and husband Ray of New Iberia; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mercedes Delahoussaye of Metairie.

In addition to his parents, Speedy was preceded in death by a twin brother, Rene Francis Delahoussaye, Sr., and a sister, Evelyn Voorhies.

Pallbearers will be Eric Comeaux, Dustin Lemaire, Rene Delahoussaye Jr., Rene Borel, Jacob Bennett, Adam Delahoussaye.

 

Honorary pallbearers include Harold Duplechin, Brian Bennett, George Reeves, Alfred "Smitty" Landry, Raymond Elias.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. James Falterman and his staff, Dr. Clyde Roy and his staff, staff of Heart of Hospice, and most importantly the staff and residents of Consolata Home, who made Mr. Speedy a part of their family.
