Peggy , when I heard about Charlie , I wanted to come and put my arms around you and hug you tight and tell you how sorry I am for your loss . I am so glad you found each other and had a great life together for 21 yrs . So sorry it wasn't longer . You will always have great memories to look back on . Charles "Charlie" R. Stortstrom, 73, of Manchester, NH, died December 24, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.Born in Beverly, MA on June 16, 1944, he was the son of Charles H. and Pearl E. (Lowd) Stortstrom. Charlie was raised in Beverly, MA and resided in the Queen City for many years.Charlie earned a bachelor's degree from Salem State College in 1966 as well as a master degree in education in 1970. He received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Boston University in 1975.Early in his career, he taught mathematics. Later, Charlie was a principal with Londonderry High School for several years. He was inducted into the Londonderry Hall of Fame. In his later years, Charlie worked in the plumbing and heating supply industry and eventually founded Ammonoosuc Plumbing and Heating Wholesale Supply.An avid golfer, he was a member of the Intervale Country Club. He enjoyed playing cribbage. Charlie will be remembered as an amazing, smart, laid-back, and thoughtful father, husband, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.Family members include his loving wife, of twenty-one years, Margaret (Higgins) Stortstrom; a daughter, Lisa of Sarasotta, FL; a granddaughter, Sara; a brother, Alan and his partner, Bill, of Tucson, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Aleksandra; two stepdaughters, Judy Munnis and her husband, Todd, and their children, Michael and Margaret and Jennifer Graham and her sons, Christopher and Brendan. He was predeceased by his son, Erik who died in 2008.Services: Calling hours are Wednesday, January 3, 2017, from 4 to 7 PM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 4, 2017, at 11AM in the funeral home. Despite the inclement weather, the service has not been canceled. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Dr., Unit 110, Bedford, NH 03110.
