I worked many years with Mr. Uppy at Aggregate Industries(Millville Quarry). He was a dear and special person.I always enjoyed our talks.Rest in peace Mr. Uppy.

Charles's Obituary

Charles Alvin "Uppy" Upwright, 87, died on April 16, 2014 at his residence in Leetown, WV.

 

He was born on August 11, 1926 in Bolivar, WV to the late Louis Leon and Vallie May Dunn Upwright.

 

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Uvilla, WV.

 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Jo Rice Upwright, at home; daughter, Karen Fitzpatrick and husband, Edwin of Shepherdstown, sons, Scott Upwright and wife, Tressa, of Inwood, and Eric Collison and wife, Sharon of Portland, OR.

 

Additionally, he leaves two granddaughters, Brandy Sharritt and husband, Mitch and their son, Marshall of Martinsburg, Rachel Robinson and husband, Michael of Kearneysville, and grandsons Leaf and Brook Collison, of Portland, OR and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; Louis Upwright, Leon Upweight, Ruby Bodkins, and Ethel Cox along with one infant son, Alvin Eugene Upwright.

 

He attended school in Bolivar and spent some years in Baltimore, MD as a teen. He spent time outdoors and enjoyed fishing. Having built his own home, he had a passion for maintaining his house and yard. He also enjoyed time with his great grandson, Marshall.

 

He worked for over 60 years at the stone quarry in Millville and retired from US Steel there. He was also employed at Dixie Narco. He continued his career as watchman at the quarry after retirement.

 

Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Pastor Bruce Barth officiating. Entombment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, WV.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Uvilla, WV or Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
