Charlie “Wayne” Hall, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness. Wayne was born June 9, 1947, in Martinsville, Virginia. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam. His service shaped him with equal parts strength, grit, and loyalty. When he returned home, he continued a life of hard work as a skilled crane fabricator for most of his life. Wayne helped build the machines that lifted and moved the world, heavy iron and steel shaped by hard hands and relentless pride. Wayne married Donna Hall (née Thompson), and though their marriage didn’t last, their bond did. He always took care of her and always loved her even when life got messy. It was complicated, but it was real.
His daughter, Charlie Lynn Perez, was the center of his world. In his final years, she became his strength, the hands that steadied him, the heart that protected him, and the love that never left his side. And she didn’t do it alone. Her husband, Jayson, stood right there with her fixing, lifting, supporting, and caring without hesitation. Together, they gave Wayne comfort, dignity, and a home full of love till the end. He didn’t always say the words, but his love for them was steady, deep, and unwavering.
Wayne’s proudest and most accomplished title was Papa. He may have been rough around the edges, but his grandkids softened every part of him. Each carries a piece of the man who loved them in his own stubborn, devoted way: Jordan embodies his loyalty to family— devoted to her people, steady and reliable. Karissa radiates his rip-roaring energy — never walking when she can run, never quiet when she can roar. Donovan holds his heart — loving, protective and quietly caring. Isaiah keeps his humor, with a mischievous grin and the gift of laughter even on the hard days. Through them, Wayne’s love keeps moving forward. They are the proof he was here, that he mattered, and that real love, his love, doesn’t end.
In addition to Donna, Charlie Lynn, Jayson and his grandchildren, Wayne is survived by his brother, Pete (Diane) Hall, a host of nieces and nephews and his most beloved dog, Romeo. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lois, his brother Henry Hall (Wanda), his sister Gayle, and nephew Bradley.
A private family memorial will be held at a future date. Semper Fi, Marine.Your work here is done. We’ll take it from here.
