Charlie Onex's Obituary

Charlie Onex Moorefield, 100, passed away at his home on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born in the Natal community in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on January 23, 1925. He was the only son of the late Grover Talmage Moorefield and Mattie Sue Haynes. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Arthur Moorefield and an infant son, Charlie Edward Moorefield. He was also predeceased by five sisters, Opal M. Saunders, Lena M. Wooldridge, Mildred M. Midkiff, Eula M. Andrews Dillon and Hazel M. Eades.

He was a mechanic for Ollie Arthur Trucking for over 30 years. He enjoyed meeting his friends for breakfast every morning before his health declined in recent years. He was an avid NASCAR and Tampa Bay Rays fan. His 2004 Ford Mustang GT was his pride and joy. He dearly loved his family, never failing to offer his guidance and support. He always had a way to make you laugh.

He is survived by a son, Carl Moorefield, five daughters, Audrey M. Wilson, Patricia M. Greggs, Susan M. Thomas, Lisa M. Jones and Gina R. Moorefield. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Funeral service by Pastor Kenric Barnett to immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Arthur Family Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland. 

The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, Virginia. 

Due to out of state burial, flowers cannot be shipped. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at West Orlando Baptist Church, 1006 E Crown Point Road, Ocoee, FL 34761. To donate, select "GIVE" on the church's website, www.westorlandobaptistchurch.com, In Memory - C Moorefield.
