Praying that God Bless his wife and family with Peace in this time of the loss of their loved one. I've known Charlie since he was in elementary school. He was a trusted and true friend to my kid brothers. He was respectful at all times, and always told the truth. I knew him by his nick-name "Sonny". Rest well Sonny.

Our Hero’s Journey- Charlie Simpson, Jr.
Mr. Charlie Simpson, a proud veteran, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Malvern, AR on November 7, 1947. His life was a testament to courage, perseverance, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
After graduating from AA Wilson High School in 1966, Charlie answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He completed Basic Training at Fort Ord, California, followed by Advanced Infantry Training and Jump School. Soon after, he received orders to join the ranks of other brave soldiers in Vietnam.
On November 1, 1969, while serving his country with distinction, Charlie was injured in combat. He was hospitalized in Japan for 39 days before returning to the United States, where he spent nearly a year recovering at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. As a result of his service-connected injuries, Charlie lost both of his legs. Despite these life-changing circumstances, his determination never wavered. In 1970, he was honorably discharged from the Army and awarded the Purple Heart, along with several other prestigious medals in recognition of his service and sacrifice. He was honored with inclusion in Congressional Record for his services in August of 2023.
Returning home to Arkansas, Charlie embraced the next chapter of his life. He met and married the love of his life, Brenda, in 1973, and together they built their home—a place that became the heart of a loving family and a place for friends and extended family to gather. Over the years, they raised five children, welcomed 11 grandchildren, and were blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, each a living legacy of Charlie’s courage and love.
While his family was his greatest joy, Charlie also found fulfillment in his hobbies. He was an avid pool player, spending most of his days at the Malvern Senior Center. He was a skilled handcyclist, a self-taught carpenter, and a true master of the grill. His warmth, humor, and quiet strength touched all who knew him.
Charlie Simpson’s life was one of service, love, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 54 years, Brenda, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron Simpson; dad, Charlie Simpson; mom, Hazel Thorn; and three brothers, Solomon Simpson, Roy William, and James William.
To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his wife, Brenda Simpson of Malvern; his kids, Aaronda McNair (Tony) of White Hall, Charlie Simpson (Nikiya) of Bryant, Veronica Rose (Cletis) of Plano, TX, and Leticia Franklin (Kevin) of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Laura Hunter (Jim) of Malvern, Judy Pierce (James) of Malvern and Precilla of Little Rock; two brother, Edward Green of Malvern and Johnny Simpson (Robin) of Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Charlie will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Revive Church in Malvern. Family and friends may gather for a visitation from 10:00 to 10:55 A.M., prior to the service. Military Honors will be presented at the church, and Charlie will be laid to rest at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Rock on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories and condolences in his online guestbook below. Brandon’s Mortuary is honored to be entrusted with his professional care.
