Not sure what to say?

Cheri was a very special lady. I was fortunate to work with Cheri in the SFSD. She was always there if I needed anything. My sympathy and prayers for her family.

Cheri was married to my twin brother, Glen. I loved Cheri and was always glad that she married Glen.

Glen and family you have our sympathy for the loss of your wife and Mother

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

My deepest condolences to Sarah Husby for the loss of your dear sister, Clara Hart.

Glen, our deepest condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Cheri was a true friend to many in the school district. I will always treasure the times I spent with her. Her generous heart extended to children across the city and her quiet influence resonates. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Rest in peace dear friend

Our sincerest condolences to the whole family. May perpetual light shine upon her. May she Rest In Peace.

Cheryl's Obituary

Cheryl Ilse passed away under the compassionate care of Avera Hospice on Saturday July 13, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Cheri was born on April 15, 1948, to Hollace and Celeste Thornton in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the eldest of nine children and loved her siblings. Cheri attended St. Joseph’s Cathedral School and graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1966. She treasured the life-long friendships that she formed during those years.

Cheri married the love of her life, Glen Ilse, on March 20, 1993. Through this union they joined together two families. She loved all their children and had the special title of Grandma to many. Spending time with her family brought her the most joy. She demonstrated her love for her family and friends through her cherished dishes along with her great skills in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. In addition, she was an avid reader and her passion for reading continues through her daughters and grandchildren.

Her love of children carried through in her career. She worked in administration for the Sioux Falls School District for over 30 years and retired in 2013.

Grateful for sharing her life is her husband of 31 years, Glen Ilse, as well as their children: Christine (Francis) Doiron of Monument, CO, Rebecca Sotebeer of Sioux Falls, SD, Gretchen (Ty) Chan of Sioux Falls, SD, and Rusty (Cindy) Ilse of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Dick (Dawn) Thornton of Sioux Falls, SD, Bob (Lanie) Thornton of Humboldt, IA, Cindi (John) Colton of Sioux Falls, SD, Sarah (Dave) Husby of Sioux Falls SD, Susan (Richard) Barden of Newport Beach, CA, Mary (Doug) Bowden of Scottsdale, AZ, David (Yvonne) Thornton of Sioux Falls, SD, and Greg (Priscilla) Thornton of Sioux Falls, SD, along with her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents Hollace and Celeste Thornton.
