Cheryl's Obituaries

Cheryl "Cheri" Krapcho passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, June 25, 2021, in Colorado in the company of her daughter, Kelli, and husband, Steve.

Cheri, born July 5, 1955, spent most of her childhood and teen years in Hampton, Virginia, graduating from Bethel High School. Following brief career stops at Montgomery Ward and JC Penney, Cheri and her puppy-pal Toby decided to hit the highway and head north for new adventures. That decision led Cheri to what would be a 26-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency. After meeting Steve in a CIA softball league, their careers provided many travel opportunities and gave them the chance to live together abroad in Italy (where Kelli joined the family) and in Canada. Cheri retired from the CIA in 2014, and after Steve retired, they escaped the fast pace of the east coast and landed in Windsor, Colorado, in the house they built for their retirement.

Throughout her life, Cheri was a swimmer, skier, softball player and even dabbled with golf and ice skating (quickly figuring out these were not her sports!), but her greatest enjoyment came at the beach. Wrestling the waves and soaking in the sun was her passion.

Cheri is survived by her loving family: husband of 29 years, Steven Krapcho; daughter Kelli Krapcho (24); sisters: Kathy Hutchison and Sandy Fitch; brothers: Jim Hartzheim, Mick Hartzheim, and Pat Hartzheim; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends across the United States.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM Saturday, July 3, 2021,  at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. A Celebration of Cheri’s life will begin at 12:30 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the UCHealth Northern Colorado Foundation (https://www.uchealthnocofoundation.org/).
