Not sure what to say?

Dearest Ursula, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved husband.

Ursula, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that Chris had to be a special person to have such a great gift of God as you by his side. We will all see our loved ones again someday, do take peace in that.

I did not have the opportunity to know Chris. But I know his lovely wife Ursula and value her friendship as a gift from God. She is a person of deep faith. My love and prayers for God's comfort over her and their sons as they grieve their loss.

Mr. Bock was my teacher at Jones Magnet Middle School. He was a great teacher and kind person. Middle School was a time where I really enjoyed history and he helped in that way. His son Mike was in a couple of my classes and he was a cool guy so I know that Mr. Bock really had a great influence on him. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I wish the family well.

Chris was such an excellent human being--funny, gentle, kind, wicked intelligent, and upright. He was an especial friend to our son Amaree, with whom he shared a birthday, and to dog Ella. The world was a little brighter, a little better for his presence. We love you, Chris, we miss you terribly.

I'm so honored to have had Uncle Chris as in my uncle. He holds a special place in my childhood memories as someone who was always fun, funny, and incredibly caring. This world will not be the same without you Uncle. Love you lots ❤

We were neighbors of Chris, Ursula and the boys during their second tour of duty in Kuwait. Chris was a very intelligent and good humored person and he had a wonderful sense of humor so even a short conversation with him was not to be missed. I am heartened to know that he was with his family until the end. We send our condolences and sympathy to Ursula, Michael and Eric.

Christopher Charles Bock                                                                   June 3, 1950  to  July 9, 2025  Chris Bock was born in Philadelphia on June 3, 1950. He spent a carefree childhood there that included regular vacations on the Jersey Shore and occasional road trips out-of-state. His family valued spiritual growth as well, and Chris served as altar boy in the Episcopal church. He was an excellent student and enjoyed reading, playing chess (beating his elders!), and crafting intricate models of ships.   Upon graduating from high school, he attended Pennsylvania State University to earn a Bachelor’s and Villanova University to earn a Master’s degree in history. Later he attained a Master’s degree in economics as well.  Chris accepted a teaching position in Shiraz, Iran, in 1976, launching a long and distinguished career in international schools. Between 1976 and 2001, he also taught in Salzburg, Austria; Rome, Italy; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Seoul, South Korea; and Helsinki, Finland. He was an effective and popular instructor, and his students include accomplished professionals in a variety of fields.  He married Ursula Jantz in August 1980, and their family grew to include Michael and Eric.  When they all settled in Hampton, Virginia, in 2001, Chris taught at Jones Magnet Middle School as well as part-time at Embry Riddle University, Christopher Newport University, Averett University, and (what was then) Thomas Nelson Community College. In Hampton, he became a regular attendee and also a member of Huntington Mennonite Church.  Over the years, he experienced several medical setbacks that led to increasing frailty. On July 9, 2025, he succumbed to Parkinson’s disease.  He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Jessica Bock (nee Matlack) and his older brother Jeffrey. He leaves behind his wife Ursula and two sons Michael (Alexandra Kruse) and Eric as well as brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Christopher Charles Bock will be remembered with fond respect for his sense of humor, his commitment to his family, his passion for excellent education, and a faith that carried him through life.   There are no words to describe how sorely he will be missed.   Among other organizations that alleviate basic needs Chris, regularly supported Doctors Without Borders and the local foodbank. Please consider donations to such organizations in lieu of flowers.
