Not sure what to say?

S.I.P ShoeString as we called you Lord keep your loving Arms around the Mason and Reid Family as they go through this devastating time. Keep your eyes on Jesus and always lean on him when you feel sad and just don’t understand why his life was cut so short.

His smile was infectious, his spirit caring ,his heart was big, and his love was never a question because he let you know .Words can’t express the deep sadness of how much you are loved and will be missed .You will FOREVER and EVER be in our hearts

Chris was a very cool and loving young man, who truly loved his family and didn't mind helping those in need. My sister and I loved his spirit and personality. He will forever be missed. His family are forever in out thoughts and prayers

Obituary

Christopher's Obituary

Christopher Roderick Mason, Sr., affectionately known to many as Shoestring and Chris, was born on October 20, 1982, to the late Roderick Reid and the late Tracey R. Mason. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George L. and Susie M. Reid, and his great-grandparents, Lorenzo L. Davis, Sr. and Margaret E. Davis.

On the morning of September 24, 2025, Chris tragically and unexpectedly gained his heavenly wings, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Chris was educated in Suffolk Public Schools and later attended Tidewater Community College, where he proudly earned his Commercial Driver’s License. A man of many gifts, Chris was both a talented barber and a dedicated long-distance truck driver. He also had a natural talent for working on cars and trucks and was known for his artistic creativity—a reflection of his imaginative spirit and skillful hands.

He found peace and happiness in life’s simple pleasures—casting a fishing line beside his children, preparing hearty meals for loved ones, and enjoying one of his favorite comfort foods, mashed potatoes. His magnetic presence, warm laughter, and generous heart made every room brighter.

A devoted father, loving husband, brother, and friend, Chris’s greatest joy was his family. He took pride in being a protector, a provider, and a guiding light to those he loved most.

Chris was a true Las Vegas Raiders fan and had a special love for collecting watches. His bold personality, deep compassion, and loyal spirit will forever be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Raychelle Mason, and his children: Christopher R. Mason, Jr., Jason M. Rogers, Jaiden C. Mason, Christian O. Mason, De’Monta K. Slater, S’Rai A. Mason, Ni’Von C. Mason, and Amoriana C. Mason. He is also survived by his grandmother, Angelia D. Copeland; siblings Kindra R. Mason (Kevin), Tia D. Knight (Keith), and Octavius L. Williams; granddaughters Ulani and Serenity Slater; godchildren Marcus and Zyah Thomas; uncles George A. Reid, Jr. (Cheryl), Broderick Reid, Alvis Reid, Darnell Reid (Sherry), Pastor Fletcher Reid (Tonia), and Ron D. Mason (Kim); aunts Joanne Calvie (Dwayne), Lenora Reid, and Iris Reid; his best friend “Minno” Johnson; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Chris will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his strength through adversity, and his boundless love for family—a love that continues to live on through the lives he touched.
